Looking for something to display my OSD/DVD-A menu's etc without turning on my projector. Having looked at the more expensive Sharp LCD tv's and seen the prices £approx £600 for a 15", I thought a flat panel computer monitor (circa £250-£300) might be a better option as long as it can display video and has an S Video input.
    Thanks in advance

Sounds like you need a small widescreen TFT. There are a few used on the projects on www.mini-itx.com some of which have PC inputs as well. Then you could mount it into a rack could you not, that'd be pretty cool.

    Eric

be very careful about connecting a scaler box to computer flat panel display, many of the refresh rates they need to work don't correspond well with DVD player outputs unlike CRT monitors. Try before you buy.

    Thanks Guys.
Nic, what I need is to literally connect the SVideo output from my processor to view OSD's and the Svideo outputs of my multi player to view menu's etc. The HD leeza (when it arrives) will go straight into the G70.

I can recomend the Kiss 15" widescreen TFT that webloader linked to, its got vga, composite and svideo in, very thin as the screen is based on a laptop tft as oppsosed to the desktop tft's that have a better contrast level and wider veiwing angle, I bought it to be able to select music from via the HTPC without powering up the pj and for the other half to watch sky via svideo when she cant be bothered with the big screen and HTPC. I bought mine from Scan for way more than it is now but thats av/pc products for you.

    http://web6.scan.co.uk/Products/Info.asp?WPID=45230

At £220 + vat its ideal

    hi john

i plan to use mine for exactly the same thing, 'casual' viewing of sky+ via svideo. how do you rate the display (currently i am ashamed to admit that my casual viewing when my HS10 isnt fired up is using a ancient 14" portable connected via RF !!)

have you tried using powerstrip and dscaler on it to see what it can really do?

    cheers

    Webloader,

The picture is okay when its on axis, it just hasn't got a great veiwing angle. Other than that it has all the normal lcd traits with fast moving action but it serves its purpose and looks the part.

I thought as much and the LCD tv will be fine, however a much cheaper way several have tried is something like the cheopo cheesebox into a computer LCD display. In many instances this doesn't work as the 'computer' LCD has trouble locking onto the 'low' freq. CRTs are fine here. A few have had their fingers burned here hence my warning. The KISS looks perfect, I might have one as well!
