My son is looking for a cheap and cheerful DVD player until he can afford a better one. He is thinking about the Ronin P703 which retails at GameLoaded.co.uk for £55.99, allegedly saving £44. It's certainly cheap, but is it cheerful? Has anyone any experience of this machine?

Ronins are cheap players. Not necessariliy bad but they don't sell for £100 so the retailer is dishonest in its adverts.

Thank for the info Bonzobanana. I'll pass that info on. Is there anyone out there who has actually got one of these?

    :hiya: I have one!

There's not a lot I can say about it. It does the job adequately enough with no fuss.

Has played every disc I have thrown at it, even tempremental ones. CDRW, CDR, DVD+R, DVD-R, MP3, raw MPG, normal DVD (!), VCD and SVCD.

The picture quality doesn't match my Sony 725 - but then I didn't expect it to - but sound quality for DVDs through the digital link was pretty much equal.

I ordered from here and though it says "Aries", you get a Ronin! Wouldn't recommend their scarts though - yuk - best off getting a good quality scart.

Having said all this - I would recommend that your son saves up for the Toshiba 330 multiregion - £80 from amazon.co.uk as it should be significantly better than this player for about £25 more.

    Thanks for the info tbibic,
Wow, £80 for a multi-region Tosh 330 is a good deal. As you say, for a few quid extra you get a much better machine. I've got a second generation multi-region Tosh myself and it has been great.
    Thanks again for your comments.
