I got my clio broken into a couple of weeks ago and I just got the replacement window. The guy in the car dismantler's told me it was a cinch, but I can only get so far removing the panel (front passenger side). So far I have:

Removed the bolt in the door opener

Removed the 2 bolts in the handle

Removed the 4 screws holding the door basket

I cannot get the window winder off and I cannot get the panel off.

Does anyone else know how to get this thing off? It's a '97 1.9D RL.

you will need a special tool to get the winder off...it has a metal clip holding it on which needs pinching.

That's what a colleague says, but I cannot for the life of me see any clip/pin.

if you take your car back to the dismantlers I am sure he will do you a favour and help you take it off...if there is no clip then the winder should just pull off...if the window has been replaced before then it may even have been glued/jammed back on as the little clips are very easy to lose...also you could always smash this winder off and buy a cheap replacement from your dismantler as a last resort.

edit: when you get this sorted be very careful taking the door card off as it is held in place with plastic "clips/poppers" they are VERY easy to snap which means that it won't go on properly again and will flap about or vibrate when you are driving, very annoying.

Yeah, I was gonna go back and get him to replace the driver's window he gave me for the correct passenger's window anyway. So I'll slag him a bit and shame him into doing it. I already have the little poppers off without breaking them.

Not sure if it's of any use but here is the correct page from the haynes manual, it would seem a couple of knives/coathanger behind the handle could release that clip.

    Hi Michael
If there's no screw under a little round panel facing you and it won't pull off (don't force it!) Then there WILL be a little horseshoe clip behind it, if you don't have a removal tool then gently poke a screwdriver behind the winder and push it off. Cup your hand behind though to catch it or you probably won't see it again. Another option, pop in to any window tinter and they'll gladly whip it off for you. (Probably try to sell you a tint though, I would!!)

A replacement window for a Clio.

Not a bad swap, I reckon.

At least the glass will be solid and reliable.
