My contract with orange runs out at the end of the month and though I want to stop with them I do want a new phone.

I have got the 6610i at the moment and would like to upgrade to a phone that has proper tunes for ringtones, not bothered about a camera but I guess that they all have them these days.

My choices are Motorola V3, V545
    Nokia 6020, 6030, 6170, 6230
    Samsung E350
    Sony Ericsson J300i, K300i, K700i

I quite like the look of the Samsung D500 which I might be able to get for nowt as the new 600e is out.

I have always had Nokia but am thinking of going for a different make, are there any major issues with some of the others mentioned?

What would you say is the best choice?

Threaten to leave for another SP unmless they give you a D600 or K750i. Ignore all the other phones, all pale compared to these two

Do you have to threaten much to get them to move on an upgrade?

Just had a massive upgrade from my appaling Sharp T100 to a Sony Ericsson K750i and it is a very very good phone. My brother has the k700 and yes it is similar but doesnt seem as 'polished' as this and also seems a bit basic now. Highly recommended!

In which case I'd expect you'd easily qualify for a k750i etc, threaten to leave and see what happens.

I got the W800i for on orange 50 quid (minus 20 trade in), and if you can deal with the colour (not an issue for me in the slightest), then I think it's brilliant- the first phone I've had whic does pretty much everything I want it to.

I don't have an MP3 player, so I use the one onthe w800 a lot

if it's between the k750 and the w800, bear in mind that with the latter you get a MS pro duo 512k memory card (about 50 quid on ebuyer.com) and a really good pair of headphpones (18 quid on play.com)

You can do better than those phones.

Assuming all service providers are pretty much the same heres what I got:

    Monthly phone bill around 100gbp
With t-mobile for just under 5 years
    no missed payments

    ...... drum role ..... MDA3! Free!

Oh and a new 12month contract, which I cancelled 6 months later and got away scot free with the phone too! :D

Jan 05 I rang O2 for an upgrade and was offered an XDAIIs (Same as MDA3 but in Black so looks cooler!) for £180, told them Orange had offered me their SPV2000 for free so they matched it.

used it for a couple of months but wasn't over keen so told them it was faulty, brand new one arrives in a Box so I sold it on Ebay for £320!

    Only on a £25 a month contract!

Disagree about it being a better phone though, yeah it's a great PDA and comms device but as a phone it's not great. lost count of the number of calls with no mic or earpiece sound (common fault with HTC Blue Angel devices)

Back to my old trusty K700i at the moment until something decent comes along

Hmmmm, k750i. I have mine (reflashed to a W800i so I get all of the extra W800i features will none of the puke orange look!) and I highly recommend it. Battery life isn't as good as it claims but it should last you the day, plus it seems to recharge itself (or read wrong) as I constantly go from 40% up to 60% on battery charge left.

eh? battery life on a k750i should last a day? i have had mine for 6 days and have done nothing but mess around with it (customize settings, recording video etc) and finally put it on charge this afternoon for the first time. i know i could squeeze around 9-10 days if used lightly, although se claim around 400 hours, which is nearly 17 days! :rotfl:

Glad someone else thinks this I thought I was going crazy. The battery life on mine seems to go up all the time? Not that i'm complaining.

yep common fault. i have an spv m2000 think it effects them more than the o2 branded ones! hgoever its easilly fixed by a simple download from xda developers so its not really an issue when u can fix it yourself in 2 mins with no loss of data or anything hey

Seriously. I have no idea of this bug you guys are talking about with my MDA 3 (this is a blueangel right?). Maybe as its appears to be a software bug that it has been patched?

Basically every other phone call you make or receive has NO Ear or Mic audio. Only fix when I had mine was to soft reset or enable/disable bluetooth bizzarely.

I was on latest O2 rom and at the time 3 months ago wasn't fixed but as Krismc has suggested this may have been resolved now.

Aslo got fed up with sending it back to O2 to have the keyboard re-tightend as well.

P.S. got a spare cradle and Battery for one of these (in Black) PM me if your interested.

    Dunno mate.

Never experienced that myself and my phone must be around 5/6 months old. But then im not on O2, mine was sourced from T-Mobile... maybe thats the diference?

And keyboard "re-tightened"? Again, mines fine  Only problem with my keyboard is a slight scracthing on the sides where it slides up n down.

The only real gripe i have with it is that the backlight drops to nothing randomly. This can be very annoying when trying to reset it back at night time! :D

Thanks for the offer of a cradle but i'm about to upgrade to a Pro anyway! (Can't have my bird on 3g and me not!)

I've been listening to MP3's, radio, taking photos and general usage and it's down to about 10% at the end of the day.

Sony say you get 400hours on standby with the phone just lying there doing nothing. What they say and what it does is another thing altogeter :)

Don't get my wrong, I love the phone but the battery isn't as good as they say. For general usage you get about 2 days (my mother has one and she just uses it for calls and texts)
