Hi, I am a poor humble student who has just about scraped together £250 with which to buy an av amp. I have 5 Acoustic energy Aegis compact speakers, and i was just wondering if anyone could offer any advice or suggestions, or say 'For goodness sake don't be stupid, don't buy x'
Anyway, I don't yet drive, so my current plan is to head down to Richer's this week and audition the yamaha dsp-ax620 and the kenwood krf-x9050d. My basic requirements are that it sounds ok with music and movies, as well as featuring a 5.1 input so that i can put my PC through it for games. Also I'd prefer it to have a good bit of grunt (watts RMS) because being a semi-pro mobile DJ I have a pair of 350 watt PA speakers, as it would be nice to use them in student housewarming situations, and my business partner with the amp is on the other side of the country :)
Would these do the job? Any others i should check out? Anyone got something second hand in the brighton area that i would be a fool to miss?

    Cheers,
    Tim

I too am a Poor student and bought a Technics SADX950, It has everything except PL2,   if you play games with a stereo sound track PL2 gives you surround. so well worth it the Marrantz 4200 has all you would need and is £270 from RS. But a S/H Denon or similar will give you more bang per buck, with better quality. If you are DJ ing why try a Stereo power amp and AV processor combi, Gives you the power on the front and surround, check the classifieds as this would have to be SH to fit in your budget.

Kenwood KRF-V6060, PL2 and Circle Surround II which is supposed to be very good for music.
