I have 1 x Anthem PVA 7 power amplifier for sale.

One of them has a few scratches on the front, this one was manufactured in 2010. The other one is in better condition, it has some additional labels on the back having been used for atmos channels, these could be peeled off, manufactured in 2007.

They are sat on castors just for the pictures, it made it easier to spin them around, they are very heavy and solidly built.

I'm an electronics engineer, I have checked the internals and all the components look in good condition, no capacitors showing degradation etc.

I would like £850. I don't have any boxes so collection, or I may be able to deliver depending on where you are.

Hi Nick

I am interested in one but I am in Reigate Surrey. So a long way from you and I have a sick parent so can’t really travel up to you. let me know if you travel this way or find the box. :)

Hi, sadly I don't have the box and they would need something very strong, probably double boxed.

I'm currently furloughed from work, when I am back at work about the closest I get is near Worthing, I'll be sure to let you know if I am going there and maybe we can arrange something.

Ok great thanks Nick.

Worthing is close. I have family in Rustington (just along the coast) so perhaps we can work something out in future

Just wondering what sort of power this amp has - eg is it as powerful as the A30.7 you have in your list? I'm using a Musical fidelity A5cr for my fronts (Neat Ultimatum MF9s which need some grip) and its 250 wpc works well. It would be nice to have one power amp for all the speakers though

Here is the spec Anthem® | Power Amplifier | PVA 7 | Specifications

At 8 ohms all channels driven it's slightly less rated wattage than the Primare, but the Anthem is class AB compared to the class D Primare so the Anthem is much heavier with a much larger power supply.

The Anthem also has a higher voltage gain, 29dB compared to 26dB of the Primare.

The new price was similar for both of them around £2500 I believe.

Have you tested them and they work or just looked inside ?
Have you heard them connected up to speakers on all channels ?
Thanks
John

Hi John,

I have hooked them up to speakers and tested each channel, all working perfectly.

It would be a great match with the 720, I always found adding a power amp gives a more refined sound, effortless at higher volumes. The toroidal transformer in the PVA 7 is massive where the 720 only has a switch mode power supply which are generally more noisy signal wise.

Thank you. I listen at most at -19db. I'm trying to work out if a power amp would really make any difference to me.

My room is small, i listen at -17 maximum and I've always had power amps, even if they just power the front 2 or 3 speakers it takes a load off your AVR. Also I blew my Anthem MRX 510, possibly because the rear speakers were 4 ohms and Anthem only mention 8ohm loads. If any of your speakers are 4 ohms then a power amp is much safer for your 720. The PVA 7 will even handle 2 ohm loads at ridiculous power levels.

I know it’s really cheeky, but I’ll offer £500 for the one with scratches.

Hi James, thanks for the offer but that is quite a bit lower than I'm willing to go.

Completely understand. If you change your mind then do let me know. I’m only in Nottingham and could collect anytime this week.

How about £600? Could collect today.
Hi James, thanks but it's still too low. I'm not in any rush to sell. I don't mind coming down a bit but that's a third off the asking.

I’ll be honest I’m really tempted, it’s just I’m not 100% convinced I need a power amp. It’s a bit of a spontaneous purchase!

It's a nice experiment for little risk as you should be able to sell it on again for only a small loss if you decide it's not for you. Personally I always found a power amp a good upgrade.
