I have an Anthem D2V processor with the Arcam P7 power amp. I have had the Anthem D2v for about 2 years but now I am wondering whether I am losing out in the stereo side with my 350 CD collection.

I used to have the Arcam AV8 processor with the P7 and I loved it with stereo.

Does anyone have experience of both these processors?

Is the AV888 a big improvement in stereo?

I know that the D2V retails at £8750 and the AV888 was £4000 I believe?

Your always going to get better 2 channel quality from a dedicated 2 channel pre. Rather than chucking that type of money for a replacement AV pre, why not integrate a 2 channel one. My guess is a £1k 2 channel pre would walk all over either of these options for 2 channel.

Stevos - I notice that you have a Cyrus preamp in your signature.

Are they good in stereo with CDs?

Is it easy to integrate with an AV processor such as the Anthem D2V?

Not quite IME. A matching stereo pre to the Anthem would be somewhat north of 1k new. For example in Classe world the SSP (8k) equivalent would be a CP (5k) so the OP's logic may be spot on. As always find one you like then listen to it.

Integrating relies on having some sort of pass through in the pre - there's a thread nearby that covers some of the options.

Not sure on the Classe front, but the other high end AV pre's/power I have heard in AV shows, they just don't have the detail that a mid range 2 channel setups. Whether you can hear the difference with non AV show material (more normal music taste, no idea).

I like the cyrus pre, but it also needs to psx-r to shine. I always like the sound of Cyrus, as I like their lively/fast sound.

I haven't heard the Anthem but I have the AV888 and owned the AV8 and AV9 before. It's impossible to compare them directly because the speakers are different (as is the house), but my impression is that the AV888 is a big step up for stereo (mainly using it as a DAC with a digital source, but also with phono inputs). The AV888 also seems to be much more dynamic for movies and after 2 years it I figure it is probably the best AV buy that I ever made.

The AV888 is a hundred times better for music than the D2V. I love the AV888 for music.

The D2V beats it for features and movies though.

Ideally, the D2V needs to be professionaly installed. It is very expensive as well.
