    Hi Guys!

You may notice from my avatar I’ve joined the UK SVS club, well its good riddens KEF TDM45B and hello PCi 16-46. I was in the market for a B&W PV-1 / ASW750 or maybe a Rocket but couldn’t wait any longer, I was also interested to see if these guys punched above their price bracket. Although I don’t think the unit is run in yet I am already very, very please with my purchase.

Movie moments such as the opening of attack of the clones when the ambassador’s ship explodes used to blow the cut out fuse on my KEF, now I get a deep, rich, engulfing boom below the blast of the explosion. The water fall shot at the start of the Lion King used to have an indistinct distant sound, now replaced by a deep low tactile rumble and the elephants stepping toward the screen now seem to have put on a few tons in weight. I know this is supposed to be a quiet sub by SVS standards but the output level and quality of bass is phenomenal. :D

And who says you need to have different settings for music and movies? This sub produces the goods with CD’s as well; bass lines and drums are tight and controlled no mater what style of music you throw at it. As soon as I get in the house from work I stick a CD in and have to sit and listen to all the sound I’ve been missing.

I now think it is only correct that M&K hand over the Discover Deep Bass trade mark to SVS.

I’d like to thank Ian J  and the rest of you guys for posting your thoughts on these products, without your views and comment a I might of bought a product that would have cost over twice as much and not sounded anywhere near as good.

PS. ljw2k there’s no point me sending you a photo of the sub insitu as we have it in a corner with a palm in front of it and you can’t see it, and cheers for a smooth transaction.

Welcome to the club. I've had mine for over a year and it still brings a big grin to my face.

What with a Denon AVC10SE and an SVS all you need is a set of M&K speakers and you will have a pretty decent setup :D

    Thank goodness for that. :)

I was beginning to feel the 16-46 was an endangered species. :suicide:

I just hope they don't start calling to each other across the North Sea ......like whales. :D

Hopefully all is explained in this thread

As you have to buy them directly from the manufacturer in USA all prices are in dollars which means that the Sterling equivalent will change with normal excahnge rate fluctuations. A 20-39 PC Plus that cost around £750 all in when I bought mine a year ago would now be £100 cheaper as the dollar isn't particularly healthy against the pound now.

OMG, The Ultra has arrived. I now realise why you need an SPL meter, these things are serious bass monsters. I have it set to just about off and its really loud and powerful, sounds like someones put a clap of thunder in your living room, it goes right through your body. Im a bit worried about the neighbours to be honest as this is seismic bass which makes the room feel like its swelling up.

I have only set it up roughly and I have noticed the following :

It doesnt integrate very well with micro speakers, due to the lack of low mid in micro speakers, the gap is exaggerated. Luckily I have a set of MS cinema 1s which were gathering dust in a cupboard, so they have taken over duty as the main 3 speakers until the arrival of the Neats. The 1s sound a lot better much more relaxed.

Playing back the HD bass parts on Titan AE, the sub just takes them in its stride, unlike me who is fretting and worrying over the neighbours as yet another giant ice crystal causes the windows to rattle and various things start vibrating in sympathy.

You really wonder how its doing what it does. Its a big box, but the sound is actually bigger.

If your thinking of buying one of these, you really need to understand that all the owners comments on this forum are correct. This is one bad m****r f****r and if you dont have understanding neighbours its not the one to buy. Turning it down doesnt help much, as, in most cases your probably not even at quarter volume, the next stage is off.

Reading that some owners are buying two PB Ultras, just has me asking why? SVS s instruction that you should turn the gain to about a third of total volume is scary enough.

I should just wear ear defenders. :)

Then you won't get frightened and you won't be able to hear the neighbours complaining either!

I'm in a ground floor flat. Purpose built, concrete walls, floors and ceilings. Only complaint so far was when my neighbour who lived above me, complained her bed was vibrating.

PGR2 on the Xbox and rumble strips were to blame. :)
