South East actually (Staines Upon (Under) Thames).

Having said that, the rain has eased a little in the last 15 minutes or so and the sun's come out...

Working up near Preston - flight back south has been cancelled because of high winds.

    Cheers,

Liking the map. It's certainly showing what's happening at the moment.

Hopefully the flooded areas haven't had the rain that fell in Brum.

Surprised the fence is still up but the shed roofs gone

A ridge tile broke for freedom about an hour ago. Although it's wedged itself in an upright manner in the gully, I am so glad I decided to move my car from its usual position on the drive to around the back and in the garage. I'd have kicked myself if I'd gone out tomorrow to find a tile ding on the bonnet of my car!

So I have just driven from Liverpool, over the Pennines and then down into Lincolnshire and home.

Only saw 1 lorry fall over (just 3 cars in front of me) at the top of the A628 Woodhead Pass but from what I can see, I actually managed to get home before it got "really bad". Looking at the news now, there are a lot of roads I drove on only a couple of hours ago that are now closed or blocked.

This was on top of spending Monday and Tuesday in Berkshire where it was a tad soggy to say the least.

But I'm home now and I have no intention of leaving again until next week

    Be careful out there peeps

They are saying we've had the equivalent of a category 2 hurricane with winds reaching 108 mph

At least it's nearly over, until the next one on Friday/Saturday :(

I'm constantly surprised that my house is still bearing up - checked for loose tiles when I got home and house looks fine. Nearly all the fencing on both sides is looking a bit worse for wear though.

No damage but it was interesting hearing the loud bangs from the substation behind the houses at the back of us, can't actually see the substation from our house but it was obviously tripping some fuses, every loud bang was accompanied by the lights flickering. I had prepared for the power to go off but thankfully it held strong, not so for many houses just a few miles up the road in chester though.

At one point there must have been a pretty big arc of electricity from the sub station too, saw what looked like a flash of lightning at one point!

Same as me! After the winds I witnessed last night (was at its worst about 8pm where I was), I was quite sure Id wake up roofless, and with a car with windows smashed out and full of tiles!

I had one panel done/gone/replaced in the last lot of hurricanes (few weeks back), so far so good this time round. Crazy wind!

I lodged an enquiry on the ServiceMagic.co.uk website at 9:04 this morning asking for an assessment of the cost to repair the roof that got damaged last night. At 9:06 I had a call from a contractor who is coming around this afternoon to take a look at it. Now that was quick!

Some incredibly violent whipcrack gusts last night. Eerily silent this morning.

What is it with this restless wind, always fiddling with the trees? Has it got some sort of hyperactivity disorder or what?
