(Another) Paypal question!

Hi all, sorry for the question but need some friendly advice about a transaction that is due to happen via paypal.

I am selling my iphone 3gs via gumtree - i have received an email from a buyer who is interested in it. He his happy to cough up the amount via paypal.

I have sent him a money request ( i had initially asked for a paypal gift - but have told him to pay me through my request as gifts are not protected) and selected 'goods' in the options and am waiting for him to pay. He has told me he will pay later today.

I also intend to send via special delivery tomorrow after payment is received.

I am verified with paypal too. As i have sent a money request for 'goods' will this transaction be covered by paypals seller protection (off ebay)? Is there anyway he can scam me after i have received payment and sent by special delivery? I have not done this before and could do with some help.

Thanks in advance

Be careful especially on gumtree, alot of scammers on there that state they will pay via paypal, plus extra for shipping, you get a messgae a few days later from paypal, that funds no longer available, and you loose you stuff and money, usually sending to africa and round that area.

Well i have cancelled the money request. He has sent me the money, by the looks of it from a fake paypal email account or along those lines, and i have checked my paypal balance and there is nothing in there!!

So he is a scammer - shall i notify paypal of him? he has given a postal address in his fake email too.

Did he/she ask you to ship abroad, there is alot of these scammers about, I never accept paypal on gumtree due to these. You can try reporting it to paypal, they may be able to do something.

No it was a UK address - but the emails he sent look so convincing that they are from paypal - which they are obviously not. I have spoken to paypal and confirmed i had not received any money - they advised me to report his emails to their fraud team at [email protected].

He keeps emailing me saying he has payed - im just ignoring him now having already told him its for sale as cash only.

Gumtree is for local sales i.e. you meet the person and pay with cash, it's not another version of ebay.
