I had recently suffered some dissapointment with IAG, who wanted to charge me £350+ for a replacement laser mech to my cdt20r tl2, which would only read the disc's it felt like. Being 6 weeks past the warranty date i realised that IAG had no obligation, but had hoped there maybe some good-will involved as this had also happened to one of my 125m's which was only days past it's warranty to which i grudgingly paid IAG to service some time ago.

I was contacted by several members of this forum to contact these people:

    www.theaudiocellar.co.uk

The chap with whom i dealt with was an absolute gent, my unit left me on Monday and was back with me on Friday (being repaired on the Tuesday and then put through it's paces for an additional day or so).
It has (as i understand it) had an original Japanese sourced Philips CDM12.4 installed, (which again as i understand it are becoming increasing difficult to source) rather than the cheap Chinese sourced alternatives.

This cost approx ONE THIRD of the IAG quote (not including shipping as i was not local) and took ONE THIRD of the time.
The fellow was most knowledgable indeed and communications were as good as it gets, far beyond that of the expected client/service provider norm.

I really cannot recommend this chap highly enough.

I don't know how the Mods would feel about it but if possible can this be made a sticky?
If for no other purpose than to offer Tag owners another resource other than IAG, who have alienated several that i am aware of with both their attitude and ridiculous pricing structures.

I will use and recommend this chap unreservedly and hope never to have to deal with IAG again.

From our conversations, that which i know he repairs includes Audiolab/Tag CDP's, CDT's, stereo pre-amps, power-amps including multi-channel. As for processors i do not know but of course the best course of action would be to ask for yourself :) .

Does he do AV192Rs? If he does, there is indeed a merciful God.

My TAG kits is currently fine but I need to be planning for continuity of the product I and my friends enjoy so much at present.

    Hi guys

For all of you I put in touch with the audiocellar over the years, I did mention this is a part-time thing as I think he builds NASA components as a day job...... :D

So, in the interests of keeping his in-box to a controlled size, please don't in-undate him with requests to fix DVD32R's - he won't go near them. He will however fix anything with Audiolab on the front or it's Tag equivilent, aswell as 100R's and has been known to have AV30R's and AV32R's in bits, but again for hardware failure rather than diagnosing software and RAM failures.

Oh well, the best kept secret on this fourm just got out. I guess I'll have to join the queue next time I need my kit fixing now..... bugger! :suicide:

    Cheers - Spencer

    Gents.
I did of course request permission from Audiocellar before posting.
We both agreed that if he became responsible for knocking over Tesco's server with requests to reflash eeprom's then he would call time on this thread.
    Sorry for any confusion.
All my previous comments regarding the service i received stands.

I did forget to mention in the 6 years I've known the audiocellar, he's never failed once to fix my near disasters, which have included 8000M's, P's and CDM bulbs, togehter with a cool modification to my Tag CDT that switched the blue LED off when the display went off to match the rest of my clever av kit's displays. Now I have an DVD32FLR, I don't have this to worry about

He also rebuilt from the ground up a 100R module that my dealer sent back to me fixed three times under warrenty which kept popping fuses, which ended up to be a shorting tranformer coil or something technical. :smashin:

On a closely related topic, I must admit I am gutted to find that IAG are no longer intending to produce the 250R modules. I have been in communication since March trying to get one to install into the gap in my 250x2R which would have meant another quick trip to Oxfordshire to have it installed..... darn it - what do we do if a 250R module bites the dust now then eh? :suicide:

Stick to the plan gentlemen - as Steve said, if the Tesco server grinds to a halt with requests to fix DVD32R's, I think the audiocellar will be less than happy with this post and ask for it to be pulled...... and if you ever want to find out why I have custom-built active cross-overs instead of cheap and nasty passive ones, once again, it was a trip to Oxford that convinced me.. :D

    Cheers guys - Spen

Go on then, spill the beans.... how much? :D

    Here's Phil's e-mail about the 250R's btw.

    Hello Spencer.

Thank you for the email. Unfortunately it does not feature in the Audiolab range. Best regards

    Thanks for the reply Phil.

I assume that means the 250R amp doesn't feature in the new Audiolab product range then? Sorry to seem a bit daft, but I am just curious that's all. Pity, as my 250x2R has a gap waiting to be filled. Best regards - Spencer

Mmmm, pity as it was the best amp they ever made by a country mile in my opinion. I'm just glad i have a 250x2R....

    Hi there,

This chap would'nt be a Mr ******, by any chance. Would it? If it is this would be a good alternative, I have dealt with him before, prior to my TAG stuff I had Audiolab and bought a CDM/DAX combo of him. Very knowledgable, Very passionate about his kit and highly reccommended.

Maybe, just maybe IAG may just have competition on repairs. Fingers crossed.

Just another vote for the Audioceller. Absolutely fantastic service. I ordered some phone plugs for an old 8000A (the old ones 'crumbled' as they tend to do) and he send me an extensive explanation how to replace them (I'm in the Netherlands so sending it over iwas not worth it).

Although it was my first solder job ever, it went perfectly with Kevin's explanation. He took all the time to help me, even although I only spent about 20 UKP or so on the plugs.

So :smashin: :smashin: :smashin: , can't be recommended enough!

Does anyone know what is IAG's leadtime to upgrade my AV32R bp 192 to DP?

I am told by the local dealer 1 month, but I wonder if there are any recent upgrader's feedback?

    Thanks

    HI

Just like to endorse the AudioCellar !

Very capable and knows the Tag equipment line.
Fixed my Error 31 in a jiffy - due to a dry joint on the PSU daughter board.
Very reasonable. and worth contacting if you have a problem

    Hi All,

Some time ago, my Audiolab 8000Q pre-amp gave up the ghost. Unfortunately, I had great difficulty in getting it repaired in Ireland. I was very fortunate to discover this thread and sent the amp to Kevin Green. I had the amp repaired and returned within two weeks at a very reasonable cost, and it has worked splendidly since. This guy is a national treasure.

    Regards,

    BrianPK

Yet another message of praise for The AudioCellar!

I corresponded with him for several months before, finally, deciding to have him look at my (current, all second-hand) Audiolab gear (Q, 4xMs and CDM) with the exception of the DAC which he recommended be looked at after the rest of the gear had resettled after all the changes. I also managed to persuade a friend of mine that his Q and 2xPXs could do with some TLC.

So, with a significant number of boxes to send, I contacted Kevin who, to our mutual benefit, was prepared to pick up and return all the gear whilst he was in transit on other business! Needless to say, the timescales were astounding (for the amount of gear), the service was examplary and the work done to the highest standard including much restoration of the CDM which had been hacked previously by someone else.

It's now a case of when, rather than if, we'll ask him to look at my original C and 2xPs and my friend's A!

    Dave
