The Audigy lets you choose the Digital output sampling rate,

    44.1khz
    48khz
    96khz

What setting is best for stereo mp3/wma files?

The card is connected to an av receiver using the coax digital input.

    any info appreciated:)

The higher the better, but 44.1 KHz is CD-quality so higher could be construed as overkill. 44.1 KHz should be satisfactory for MP3s/WMAs.

Ideally you should match the output sample rate to the input MP3, which will typically be 44.1khz. There is some anecdotal evidence that people prefer higher sample rates; however before you even consider this you should ensure that your multimedia settings have sample rate conversion set to 'best', which is not the default. You could even consider using a player that uses the high quality SSRC resampler; you can obtain a plugin to do this in winamp, or you could try Foobar2000 which is officially the mp3 player for audiophiles :D.
