 Right I have searched through many forums and found that for my budget (£200 or thereabouts), the following amps are mostly recommended.

    Denon AVR1905 http://www.denon.co.uk/site/frames_main.php?main=prod&ver=&MID=3&sub=1&action=detail&Pid=147

    Yamaha RXV450 http://www.yamaha-uk.com/homecinema/receivers/rx-v450/

    Pioneer VSXD814 http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/product_detail.jsp?product_id=8431&taxonomy_id=62-98

I'm a novice when it comes to home audio, so I'm basically after peoples experiences / favourite kit in my price range / opinions on the above mentioned amps..... :lease:

    Cheers :D

Ah yes...movies are the priority here but if it can play music well enough, it would be a benefit.

The speakers I have in mind are the Mordaunt Short Premiers.

You might be able to get hold of an older Marantz 5400, new from some suppliers for about £200 as they are trying to get rid of them as the 5500 is out now.

The cheapest I found the 5400 was £350 from Superfi :thumbsdow

If you know any places that sell it for £200, please let me know.

I have a Marantz SR5300 you can have for £140 inc delivery. The only real difference to the 5400 is that it doesn't have component connections (which makes no difference if your TV doesn't have them?).

Let me know if you'd like it. 18 months old, champagne colour, remote & manual.

    :)

i think the pioneer 814 probably has the most features with its auto-setup, it is a good reason to choose it but i think the sound quality is probably not as good as the other models, especially with music. but have a listen to it!

U can get a Yamaha Rxv650 rds from richersounds for £269 if u take the latest copy of what hifi in with u, igot 1 this tues for a 14 day home trial, am quite impressed with it so far especially the YPAO microphone setup. I would imagine its at least sounds as good as if not better than the 3 amps you mentioned and the mic setup is a real bonus. Having said that im probably going to take my 650 back to richersounds and change it for the next model up, the 750 but i am still waiting for feedback on my other thread on wether that is worthwile!

i got the 814 purely because music was a non priority. think im the only person on the planet that dosnt like/listen to music hehe. paired this with the MS's and the sound quality for my ears in top class for the price of the thing. real detail from my films and the auto MACAA thingy was a breeze and actually was spot on with all distances and set the Db levels quite well. rear surrounds were a little low but only by 1 db. very happy and i got it for a shade under 200 notes. hope this helps
