    Hi,

Do I have to change any voltage settings in the BIOS if I want to add a large fan to my graphics card?

I'm thinking of putting an Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer on a radeon 9550 (later, a 9800) and need to know if there is enough voltage going through the card's "fan plug socket thingy" to make it work?

When I say BIOS, I mean the general computer BIOS, not the graphics card BIOS. Do I also have to flash/change the card BIOS too?

Forgot to say, the PSU is 460w (should be enough, no?)

    Rgds,
    DT

    :boring: :)

i have the Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer fitted on my 9800 pro, and it comes with a standard power connector, which you plug into a spare lead from the PSU. So you dont have to do anything with the gfx card, including changing the voltage. As for the 460w PSU, if its a decent quality one, you'll be fine. Mines only a 350, but its a good make, so i know i'm getting some good power through-put.

btw - where is the 'overclocking' bit in your question?

No you don't need to edit the voltage setting in the cards BIOS

the fan on an Arctic cooler uses approx the same voltage; its the design / layout and materials that create more effective cooling.

if you do have problems, you can buy converters to run it from a 3 pin Molex ( the ones you put in your hard drive ) ( look in Maplins etc )

or you can also make use of any spare fan pins on the motherboard ( there are usually 2 or 3 on a motherboard ). ;)
