I have a JVC SVHS deck connected to the AV2 scart connection on my Panasonic DMR-E30. This is great for archiving old tapes and as a loop-through for the cable TV box I have connected to the AV1 scart.

The problem occurs when I switch the input select on the E30 over to AV2 when the JVC deck is either stopped or turned off. The picture on the TV screen is white and flickery and the sound that comes out is hideous. It starts off as a very quiet clicking and rapidly builds up to a deafening popping noise which gives the impression that the TV is about to explode. When I press play on the JVC deck this all stops and I get a perfect display of the video being played.

    I am baffled

Does anybody have any idea what is causing this?

    Many thanks,

    Dave
