There seems to be an annoying problem with 5.1 sound on PC soundcards and its really starting to annoy me. I'm currently using the creative audigy 2 and I can get 5.1 sound out of the digital output when a DD or DTS audio stream is being used in applications such as my DVD software. However when it comes to a computer game or video that has a 5.1 soundtrack that is in neither DD or DTS I can't get all 5.1 channels to output.. just stereo. This appears to be because the digital output on the card can only output actual digital streams, while analog 5.1 provided in games and some videos require you to use multiple analog connections from the soundcard to each speaker. What i want to know is, is there a program out there somewhere that can intergrate into windows and take these crappy 5.1 tracks and combind them into a dolby digital stream? This would allow the soundcard to output all 5.1 soundtracks through the digital output. if it converted all sound in windows into a dolby digital stream that would be superb. So my question is.. does such a program exist.. and if not.. why not?
