    Hi Everyone,

Dame Anita Roddick - founder of The Body Shop - has passed away from Hepatitus C. She died on Sunday 9th September, at the young age of just 64. :(

I don't have much to say, except that whilst I never did lots of shopping at her stores, she was certainly a woman I admired for actually trying to make a difference to our lives, here on this tiny planet of ours. I never found her to be the kind of preachy individual, like many other "environmentalists", and she was always tolerant, understanding and very down-to-earth in her personality, which is why I had great admiration for her.

"The Body Shop" will certainly not be the same without her presence. :(

My sincerest condolonces to here family, relatives and friends.

a real business women- who started with nothing and ended up with a mulit million pound and multi national business.... as well as keeping the ongoing basic principles the same. something to be admired.

    only 64years of age... shame.

Yes - I was a big fan of Anita Roddick until this sell out - she still kept some shares in The Body Shop but did make a massive packet from selling out to L'Oreal who are renowned for testing on animals !
That just says to me that she was money orientated !

Even so, it is still very sad that she has passed away at such a young age - my thoughts are with her family at this sad time.

There is also some controversy over whether Mark Constantine was really responsible for her success as an ethical entrepreneur ... he was a key supplier and some say was forced into selling out to Body Shop, and out of the industry and into bankruptcy for a while before co-founding Lush with his wife.

Anway she was a huge inspiration to many, a tireless campaigner on many issues (before they became trendy), and seemed like a genuinely down to earth tycoon, and it is a very sad loss, especially to her husband and daughters.

Didn't know about that - I personally prefer Lush to Body Shop products, by far. I am glad he has done so well too.
