    Hi,

I have just gotten into the world of Japanese animation and want to buy, rather than rent the big classics (Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll etc), as my local stores only have the dubbed versions on VHS (personally can't stand dubbing).

Does anyone know a really good supplier of anime DVDs? Japanese. or any other overseas suppliers are OK...but I really want reasonable prices and no bootlegs. Noweher I've looked ever seems to have sales on these either!!

    Cheers
    Alex

Dvdpacific have a good selection and are nice and cheap.
Ninja Scroll the best version to get is the R4 (Ausie) release of the 10th anniversary SE - it has a better picture than the R1.

The Neon Genesis Evangelion pack looks rather tasty, if a little pricey.

My favourite animé i've seen recently is Cowboy Bebop.

Thanks for these tips. Hadn't really considered using Movietyme to be honest...but they have GITS pretty cheap.

Had no idea there was a Ninja scroll 10th anniversary edition either....planetDVD have got this really cheap at just £11.63 (+p&p) R4 - (just looked it up though and the R4 of this has 52seconds cut.)
and DVD pacific have it at a crazy £9.67.

    Are DVD Pacific reliable?
    Cheers

Just watched Metropolis on TV & was blown away by it, especially the end sequence. I'd recommend it.

    Hi,

Go for any of the following titles, for sdome fun:

    My Neighbour Totoro (Japanese R2)
Whisper Of The Heart (Japanese R2)
    Kiki's Delivery Service (Japanese R2)
Pom Poko: The Great Raccoon War (Japanese R2)
My Neighbours, The Yamadas (Japanese R2)
    Perfect Blue (UK R2)
Ghost In The Shell (US Region 1 version)
The Wings Of Honneamise (US R1)
Akira: Special Edition (US R1 double-disc or double-disc tin edition)
    Urotsukidoji: Perfect Collection (R1)
Bulletproof: Gunsmith Cats (R1 or R2 edition)
    Noir (Volumes 1-6)
    Neon Genesis Evangelion
    Cowboy Bebop
    Escaflowne
Vampire Hunter D (original 50 minute short version)
    Judge
Dominion Tank Police (Acts 1-4) (US R1)

The Japanese R2 titles are available from CD Japan (www.cdjapan.co.jp) which is an English language site, stocking anime and other Japanese-imported stuff. However, while the DVD's can be a little pricey, most of the titles I mentioned above, are double-disc versions, with both an English subtitled version and an English-dubbed version as well. Almost all are 16:9 widescreen editions, and look pretty excellent!

Hope some of those help you out. :D

Beware of the old DVD region 2 version of Ghost in the Shell as the soundtrack is out of sync - it shouldn't really be still available, but many places still stock it. There was a new version released a couple of months ago which is apparenty fine...

    Review of the R1Here

Dvdpacific are in a word superb:smashin: ! my 2nd Fav online retailer. They are customs friendly, so are well worth getting the Box sets from.
I wouldnt order any thing from any USA / Ausie online stores till after xmas as the post at the moment is very slow - also Customs are alot more active during xmas time.
