But only for 'Smart Interaction' equipped TVs

So it turned out to be true as Samsung today officially launches the industry’s first Angry Birds App for Smart TV. The new App, developed by Rovio Entertainment, enables Smart TV viewers to play the popular game using 'simple' hand gestures via Samsung’s Motion Control technology; although if their rooms are lit like mine, they may just struggle.

Powered by Samsung’s Smart Interaction, Angry Bird enthusiasts can play the game on the largest screen in the home; with just the wave of the hand, viewers can control game play features including initiating the slingshot and activating the unique skills of each bird.

Angry Birds has been downloaded more than 1 billion times, across multiple platforms and all versions of the game and is the first Smart TV game developed to work with Motion Control. Samsung says it has worked closely with Rovio over the past year to apply its technology to the Angry Birds App.

“We’re excited to be launching the Angry Birds App as the very first game for TV to use Samsung’s motion control TV technology. Not only is it revolutionary but will set a new standard in the industry by offering a game for Smart TVs controlled by hand gestures,” said Stephen Mitchell, General Manager - Marketing, TV, Samsung UK. “Samsung will continue to develop various content that bring family members together in front of the TV, allowing consumers to enjoy new experiences via Samsung Smart TVs.”

The new App will only be available on Samsung 2012 Smart Interaction enabled models.
