    How old?

Mine is 6 and I swear I wish I'd never ever given him a DS followed by a vita, and allowed him to use my wife's iPhone.

Honestly books books anything but electronics.

Get him a cheap gameboy colour with a Mario game.

My lad, four in July, has access to my old tablet with the Cbeebies app on it, but he gets annoyed with it quite quickly.

He found my old Gameboy with Mario Land 2 and he sticks to playing it.
He's learning about the whole jumping whilst pressing sideways to kill the baddies, and getting onto platforms.

His skills have really improved with having to press physical buttons, instead of just tapping a tablet screen.

My son is 2 and he loves reading books and playing on a tablet he got bought on his bday. The apps we found the best are:
BabyTv - for nursery rhyme videos
Vehicle puzzles - just basically fitting the vehicles into the correct shape
    Chicco Puzzle: jigsaws
    Animal puzzle: jigsaws
Peppa Paintbox: drawing and sticker placing

kinda things along those lines hes interested in...until the battery runs out then its a nightmare haha!

Get the Zoodles- Kid Mode app.

It is an alternate desktop, for kids, it blocks adds in most cases and has a lot of content on it such as games and videos, all age appropriate. It even integrates with other childrens apps and allows them to access those.
