Android 7.0 update affecting Samsung S6 text app and predictive text

My Samsung Galaxy S6 updated from Marshmallow to 7.0 Nougat a few days ago and I'm now experiencing some small yet annoying issues.

1) When composing a text message greater than 160 characters, where as before, the phone just converted it to mms, it now tells me that the maximum number of characters has been reached. In the messaging app settings, under multimedia message, restrictions are set to free, so why is the app now refusing to convert to mms ? If I attach a photo then it automatically converts to mms and I can carry on typing.

2) Predictive text has also been affected - when typing text into the google search bar, predictive text no longer works ?

Can anyone shed any light on this ?

Many thanks for your time.
