    Hi all....

been here for a while and trying to absorb the wealth of information you guys have...thanks...:smashin:

So...recently having one of my kids move out to challenge the big wide world on her own...and my other daughter move in to another part of the house, i have the rear extension at the back of the house which has two bedrooms....
the plan is to turn these into one room which will be our new lounge / cinema room....the exsisting lounge at the front of the house will then become a master bedroom....its a bungalow btw....
there's two stud walls here which once ripped down will give me a 6.3m x 6.4m room....woohoo....!!!

i intend the build a false chimney breast type wall the house a 50'' plasma, centre speaker and electric screen. remaining speakers will be floor standing seeing i have plenty room...
i going to build from scratch a projector lift from whatever i can find...i like a challenge....! also being a sparky by trade I'm going to try a future prof all the cabling, HDMI over CAT6 ect.... and everything hidden....with banana plates for the speakers and HDMI and network outlets....

the work has started already but not had time to post anything till now....in fact as i type this...the plasterers are skimming the walls and ceilings....

i will try and post pics if there's interest...as soon as i work out how to do it....!!

i have all the kit i need already for this as used in the old lounge.... not new, not top end by any means...but works for me...money is tight...

    no name electric 108'' screen
Themescene H78 Projector (second hand from the classified here)
    Mission 75C centre
    Mission M74 fronts
    Mission 733 rears
Pioneer SW80S sub (old and needs replacing)
Panasonic TH50PZ80B plasma TV (old aging but good)
    Panasonic DMRHW220 PVR
PS3 that streams movies from my 24'' iMac
    Onkyo TXSR605

    ok here goes.....

the extension has a truss roof construction but to be on the safe side i hade a structual engineer to check the i could safely take the walls down without any sagging ceiling syndrome...better safe than sorry....!...the man from delmote said yes...!!

    so..hallway wall came down

    hallway in extension

now the walls are down we wanted to put bifold doors all along the back wall....but being that would of cost 5k for the doors and a further 2k for the steelwork....the wallet decided against it...
we decided to go for 2 x 1800mm french doors and as luck would have it my next door neighbor is on the window business and he gave me a great deal on these doors...so hacked off the plasterboard ready for the doors to go in...

next we found that the floor levels from the extension to the main house we out of line so up came the floor and relaid floor insulation to get the levels right...

    Wires wires everywhere....

i'm chopping in all cables so everything is hidden so this is taking in some forward planning so it's a bit future prof...
2 X HDMI's one to the PJ and the other to the TV
ethernet cables for each box of tricks, PS3, Apple TV, Amp, PVR, Bluray player for internet connection....i know i can go wireless but i just prefer hard wired...wireless i use for phones, laptops etc...then a couple of more for any other bits of kit that might appear....!
also going to put in a further 4 or so ethernet so if i need to send anything anywhere i can send HDMI over ethernet...
Sky plus cable just in case i bother to get sky back....don't see the point personally but its there if i need it..
speaker cable.....5.1 will do me, even though the rooms big 7.1 would be hard to do due to the location of doors and placement of a log burner.
terminations for these will banana plug sockets and a phono socket for the sub.

the chopping out for the boxes is a bit rough looking but it always is when there loads of boxes together...once its plastered you'd never know..

I've put a double socket behind the TV as I've got a set of colour changing remote LED's i want to try out....

    Time to mount the screen.

the screen is going to be hidden within the coving as the joists are running the wrong way for me to hide it in the loft.
the space is a bit tight as the case for the screen is 100mm but the coving is 80mm so had to cut out a slot in the ceiling so the screen could be raised a little.
i made a timber caseing to cover the screen case and also somewhere to stick the coving too....
seeing that the screen is old and would need to be replaced when i get the funds too i have made the case wider than needed to accommodate an upgrade...

To get the screen to open and close in the right places the adjustment was very limited so i dismantled the screen control to find a very simple worm drive with a micro limit switch at each end, after a little tinkering I've managed to increase the limits from a few inches to over a foot or two.

the next issue is to find a product that i can use on the screen surface to repaint the masking area....any suggestions...?

    thanks chaps.....

bit of painting today on the TV / screen wall which is staying white...and coming together nicely...

colour picked by the wife....and i actually like it....! darker colour to go in the alcoves...

got some nice flatplate switches and sockets... from TLC direct... and surprisingly cheap....i've put a switched lighting circuit in, one in each corner which is controlled from the switch plate on the wall....

    a knackering bank holiday weekend....!

Not much has gone on for a bit but now getting a bit more time to do a few things.

    things done since last post:
    oak floor is now laid
projector lift 50% done (i'll put something on about that later)
    AV sockets installed
AV rack sorted (£25 from flebay...!)
    Sofas in
Curtains up but need taking up
few other bits of furiture in....

we have now started using the room even though not finished.... couldn't resist....! first movie was Oblivon.... 7/10:(

    things to do:
    fit skirting and paint
    install motor for projector lift
install rad (found a nice old cast iron one that will look good)
one last coat of paint on the wall from scuff marks.

I also need to rewire the AV rack...i hate all those piles of cables that seem to grow and grow out of control....! so watch this space....

I've already started on the short speaker cables that go from the banan plug sockets in the wall to the speakers.
I got some of that Van Dam cable to do the links and once i installed it i thought it looked pants....
so i just got some heat shrink and some cable braiding and did a DIY job on it.....see what you think...?

this will hopefully work for the cables behind the rack too...

well.....that took some time....! sorry for very long delay in updating this....sometimes real life takes over.

So..... it's pretty much there, only things left are to finish off the PJ lift and sort out a universal remote thing, i have a pronto 9600 but i cant really get to grips with it so it's actually up for sale in the classified section, i think I'm probably going to go down the iPad route seeing i have a spare iPad 3 knocking around not doing much.

all the decorating has been done, in fact it's been done twice due to some cracks appearing the plasterwork...!

cable nightmare behind the rack is sorted...sort of...well it's as neat as it's going to get.

PJ lift is in but still trying to fine a linear actuator cheap enough it control it so at the moment it is counter weighed in the loft with a block and tackle affair so its an easy push pull to get it up and down.

we have some new furniture imported from the USA and at the moment there is a huge dining table in the lounge..... this is going soon in the new conservatory which is being built at the moment.

put a free standing log burner in which looks great and certainly warms the place up...

added a remote control kit to the screen which will also operate the PJ lift when done

installed some of those LED multi color lights in the recces where the screen comes out.

hmmm.... now to work out how to put images up sine the site changed.... ?

because the opening to the lounge is quite wide i had a hell of a time trying to find a way of putting doors here....

on this side of the room they sort of look like lift doors closed...but on the other side wits quite different.
