Play.com have the Region 2 Sherlock Holmes box set at £123.99. They haven't replied to my query so can anyone tell me if I am liable to be stung for customs/VAT on this box set? Thanks.

Well, they post from Jersey and Jersey is not part of the UK or the EU AFAIK, so technically I would say yes.

But, bear in mind that Play warn you about charges for R1s, but not for R2s, so if you do get caught out, maybe they will refund the duties you pay?

Why not call them up rather than rely on email? :)

I phoned Play a while ago before ordering a box set. They said if it was region 2, there would be no customs problems. The wife also bought me the R2 Kubrick box set from Play, and no problems with that.

Bizarely I bought "A Bugs Life" (R2) from Play last week for £14 and it came with a customs declaration on the outside as well as the usual invoice on the inside.

As it wan't enough to warrant Customs getting excitied about I'm not worried but I have never had one of those on an R2 disk from Play before.

The Channel Islands are part of the EU customs union for external tariffs but are outside of VAT.

Hence anything over £18 is strictly speaking subject to VAT - whether it gets caught of course is another matter.

    Bit of a punt really.
