Same old problem, installed the plasma, now I'm seeing lip sync problems on Sky+ etc. I understand whats happening but faced with a dilemma about what to do.

I've got a HK4500 that I am more than happy with, and I could buy one of the Felston boxes (and a coax/optical adapter) to sit across the Sky+ audio, but there is a very minor delay issue on DVD and Video as well, and at £165 a throw, I don't want multiple Felstons!

So what options are there if I were to change the amp, (and I maybe could offset the cost by selling the HK). What are the recommendations for a sub £500 amp, with audio delay capability? I havn't found a site yet which allows me to select based on this requirement!

I have a similar issue-i emailed Felston who said they are looking into a multiple input unit :-

"For your info, we do have a multiple input digital audio unit in the design stages, but the launch date is not yet set. This will feature one coax input and one optical input, switchable via remote control. Price is TBA. If you would like then I can add your email address to our news mailings and you would receive more information on it as soon as we have any. These are occassional emails giving info on Felston products and offers. You can unsubscribe anytime and we don't pass your email address on to anyone else.

Again, for your info the existing unit and the new one will work with any digital audio signal, Dolby Digital, DTS, PCM etc.!

    Very best regards,

    James Alston
    Felston"

Pity no one does a multiple unit,i found one in Germany but it's not a very nice looking bit of kit!!!

I saw the Felston product a few days back in an advert and had to gasp at
    the aucacity of the price!!!

Being an electronics person, a bit rusty at the practical side admittedly, all
the product will consist of is a degree of buffering using RAM chips costing
mere pence (even audio at 48khz, 2 seconds requires less then 128kb) so
with boxing, casing, control mechanisms, really more than £30 should cover
it. I am surprised some home electronics buffs couldnt produce soemthing
for less than that given some brief specifications...

£150+ is beyond scandal of the highest degree and i think playing on the value
of plasma owners who have just spend £2k....

    Shame.....

    Hi
I for one arnt going to change my amp just to get lip sync problems sorted as iam more than happy with the sound of my avr 8500,What i thought about doing was buying a iscan dvdo hd which will sort out all lip sync issues and give you a cracking plasma picture as well which at the new prices the pw7 are going for wouldnt cost much more than 2k.
    Cheers Gonzo.

I think £30 is a little optimistic,it's got a remote control too. If it's so easy come up with a circuit diagram and i'll build it ;) Seriously,if anyone can come up with a circuit diagram i will get the parts and build it,i think it would cost £50 tops....................

Gonzo, I'd started off down the same route looking at the iScan. If I was going to be spending a £1000 on a scaler (even if it solved the audio sync problem as well) I thought I'd better check out that market. Specialist opinion coming back suggests that the Lumagen is a better bet, and cheaper too, BUT, it doesn't do audio delay!!!!

    So the options look like....

    £250 for a felston + tos/coax adapter + cables (but only 1 audio path)
£300-500 and up! for a decent new amp with audio delay (less whatever you can get for your old amp in part x or by selling privatel)
£1000 Iscan HD+ (free scaler with every audio delay feature!)

As I've got the credit card out, I'm having a look at the benefits of a scaler, but I'll need convincing at that sort of price.

if you are considering a scaler and need audio delay the iScan HD and HD+ are geat and the HD+ is cheaper than a lumagen and 2 x felstron boxes!!! main advantage of the Lumagen DVi is the Gamma control (which needs pro calibration ISF etc) and more digital inputs 2 x Dvi and 2 xSDi (optional) Iscans have one Dvi and one Sdi (optional) but get a demo and see what you think!!!

The Felston product is cheap as chips, the only other standalone product that I know of costs around £800.

    Hi
Thanks for the info, but as horny says the iscan hd can solve all my lip sync problems and give me a great picture with the pw7 or if i can stop the money burning a hole in my pocket wait for the next gen panasonics, dont know how much the 8 series will cost.If i had'nt got such an expensive amp (to me) i would change for one with lip sync adjustment but i do love the sound of my harman kardon this being the main reason i dont want to swap it.
    Cheers Gonzo. :)

I'm in a similar spot, but with only a humble 4500.

Anyone know where I can get a hd+ demo?

AV-sales have HD+ on demo also a quick call to Owl Video UK distirbutor should give you a list of dealers locally: http://www.owl-video.co.uk/new/homepage.asp

MAW i think also has an HD that could perhaps be demoed (is in Surrey) I too love the HK older series 4500/4550/8500 etc and they are ideal for adding a Video processor as they dont do any processing just basic switching so no duplication of features..
