    Hi guys,

I am more or less decided on the Gallos. And I am thinking what kind of amplifier should I buy. Because of budget/ space/ mrs. constraint, don't think that I can separate music & dvd into int. amp/ av amp.

Can you guys suggest an amp that would be good in both music/ movie, and is good for the Gallos? I am more 60% music/ 40% movie.

    Thanks!

    What's your budget?

If it's around £400 then I would sugest the Marantz 5300.

Even though I have a Denon 1803 with my Gallo's, I think the Marantz is probably better with music, and would suit your needs more.

There are many happy Marantz 5300 owners on these forums, just do a search to find out comments.

My budget for the amplifier will be around ?00.

Currently, I am using Toshiba SD510E for BOTH music and movie. I might consider buying a dedicated CD player if the mrs is ok with this :zonked:

I will check around for comments on the Marantz 5300 :)

The NAD T752 seems a very good bet if you're mainly interested in Music - it costs between £500-£550. A few early models had a very noisy cooling fan but I believe they've solved that problem and the fan is now less intrusive

    Allos,

give richersounds (the shops) a call, I think they are still selling 5300 for £330 (black), for gold I don't know, perhaps another £20.

I got my 4300-Gold from RS

    Hi Allos
I have the nad t752 all i can say is that it performs great with music and movies and would be a good match for the gallows.
Iam upgrading my front three speakers soon and was thinking of the gallow divas myself.

I use a Sony 1080 with the Gallos...and the combination works well. That said, i'm planning to go to a Denon 3803, or maybe an 11SR, in the not to distant future. Heard the 11SR but not been able to compare to the 3803 yet.

Was in same position, see 'musicality' post on this Forum, where I was prompted to buy a separate stereo amp (but I understand you dont want that) and to consider adding a s/h DAC. I strayed from the DAC path, as you can see below. Jury is out on my wisdom.

Depending on your budget, Denon 3802 is now good value with the 3803 arriving, if you're not that interested in the latest AV features. Gallos micros sound great with mine for music and film but I'm no audiophile, juvenile according to someone who must be obeyed, boys and toys etc....:D

It's well worth having a listen to a shortlist before you buy if you can.

How about a good new (or second hand) stereo amp, along with a av amp. Use the pre-outs for the front two channels into the integrated amp, and then the AV amps internal power amps will power the rears.

Though I've now moved to a processor, I used to do this and found for music the stereo amp is much better than the AV amp was (though you will need a CD player separate from your Tosh 520 to get the best from CDs).

    Hi All,

Allos, i have the Marantz SR4300 and i love it !! I prefer 60% music / 40% movies, and needed a really good quality music amp and also an av amp.

Not really sure about the spec of the SR5300, but i like my SR4300 !!

Still waiting on some speakers to create full surround, the amp still sounds great on 2ch virtual surround with movies !!

    Hope this helps !!

    Cheers

Thanks guys! Really appreciate your comments :)

Will definite take a look at Marantz. However, if I remember correctly there is (or was) humming issue with the Marantz? No?

And speaking of the Denon, is 3803 good for music also?

    Thanks again.

Not heard the Denon, but I imagine it would be very good.

Although it is pretty much double the price!!!!!

If you're looking at the (price) level of the 3803 ... and music is important to you ... I'd urge you to look at both integrated AV amps, and also at a £4-500 stereo integrated amp (Rotel RA1060, NAD C370, Arcam A75+) coupled to a £3-400 AV amp (Yamaha AX630, Denon 2802, Marantz SR5300).

My feeling would be that you will get better value for your money this way.

Oh ... and as far as I'm aware, there was never any issue of humming on the Marantz - certainly I never had any humming on my SR5200.

Mine is quiet as a mouse, and its got plenty of power, bass, and quality for both dvd and music, finally it looks so exclusive, for £240 I can't imagine any other amp that can beat it at this price level.

I am also looking for a fine sounding speakers. to match a good processor
which is meridian 561 , I was thinking of pairing it with Gallos,on the the other hand Im not familiar with meridian speakers if I intend to go that way, anyone out there care to comment on this please.
And as far as my experience had on pairing a good speaker like gallos, I would suggest DENON straight up for those budgets, second choice is Yamaha amps. Thanks, DrCramNoel
