    Hello,

I'd like to pick your brains regarding a planned upgrade if thats ok!

I'm a long term Audiolab user, and over the past year have changed my system to TMA, now running:
    CDT20R TL2
    DAC20
    PA20R
    Audiolab 8000PX x2

Into B&W CDM1SE's (small flat you see! - need a house upgrade (pending...)).

I am not (yet) into AV, but wonder if it would be a sensible step to upgrade the PX's to a 5x100 AV amp, to monoblock the speaker, giving me the flexibility for top-notch AV at sometime in the future. Obviously I'd like to stick to TAG.

Any idea on prices for a 5*100? I've seen them go for about £1400 on eBay.

Thanks for any thoughts, and have a great christmas!

    Mark

I can understand your wish to stick with Tag products, and certainly the prices of that particular amp are very good currently, but do keep your mind open to other amps, and be sure to try as many as possible before buying.
I know that others here will have different views, but my own experiences of the 5x100 left me very happy with my current amps....basically a good amp,but it didnt get on very well with my speakers.

Try and get to hear a 250x3R, you'll be literally blown away :smashin: You could use that for the front 3 channels and get a 100x4R for the rears

I bought a 5*100 to power my calliopes, was a bargain at 1300 gbp second hand. I think it is a great amp, links with the av32r. But I use it mainly for home cinema, so cant really comment on 2 channel.

What do people think of the 125M's? Given that I don't (yet) have a need for AV, these would seem ideal for current needs (and could expand later with a 5*100 when space allows).

Anyone have any experience with them?
There is a seller on eBay with a (new) pair at a shade over £1400 - which seems very reasonable.

    Regards, mark

The 125's are good amps but the 100x are better! For £1400 you could probably pick up a 100x4 and bi-amp your speakers

Anyone know the going rate for a new 5x100 (or even if TAG still sell them?). Would TAG deal directly - as suppliers seem few and far between!

Have seen a 5x100 S/H for £1600 immac, boxed etc etc - does this seem reasonable?

I've seen new 125M's for £1477 a pair..., but I think using a 5x100 for 2-channel music would be a better step and upgrade path.

I don't know of anywhere that has a 250x3 to audition sadly, and I'm not sure the otherhalf would be happy with that indulgence... she wants a house soon.... :suicide:

Thank you for your continued wisdom!

I think the last price for the 100x5R was £2899, but I could be wrong. I'm sure that they are still available and will be when the re-launch happens.

Try a Google UK search to see if any of the (ex) dealers have any for sale
