Looking for some suggestions as to an acceptable amp/decoder/speaker package?

I'm taking the plunge and buying a Toshiba SD-210e dvd player I have a 4:3 Sony 25" tv (upgrading soon hopefully!) and was looking for a suitable amp/decoder and surround sound speakers.

I'm NO perfectionist or audiophile I just want something to give me some semi-decent surround sound.

I'm also on a reasonably tight budget less than £500 :(

Am I wasting my time and setting my sights too high or can you guys/girls point me in the right direction??

    Any suggestions much appreciated.

    Have a look at a
    http://www.qed-uk.com/cgi-bin/q?i=g4Iul3uDuTX0&bg=114&bp=210s&v=9 for the tosh

    at http://www.qed-uk.com/cgi-bin/q?pc=12&i=g4Iul3uDuTX0&bg=212&bp=475s&v=9 for an amp.

at http://www.qed-uk.com/cgi-bin/q?pc=12&i=g4Iul3uDuTX0&bg=216&bp=lrx&v=9 or http://www.qed-uk.com/cgi-bin/q?pc=12&i=g4Iul3uDuTX0&bg=216&bp=silverados&v=9 for speakers.

Or visit richers for uber budget busting with http://www.richersounds.com/cgi-bin/productInfo.cgi?sid=6413900ec.123456&productID=5296

i dont work for any of these i was just in a helpfull mood.

    :)
These items are all fine , the speakers mostly likely the weekest link . But the whole set up will sound far better than any of the one box solution. So please do buy one of those.
And besides it needs to be upgradable as once the bug has bitten you will be surprise what money you can find for your new hobby :p

Thanks riddler I'll certainly give these some consideration.

Anyone else care to give me some pointers? I don't want to just jump into this on the back of one recommendation.

Riddler is right so that's two recommendations.

You might like to look at Yamaha Home Cinema In a Box as an alternative but that will be a little more expensive.
