I have just got a new set of speakers - These being the Monitor Audio S6 fronts and an SLCR centre.

I am currently using these with my existing eltax HT2 bipolar rears and my Sony STR-DB930 receiver.

I am getting tempted to upgrade the amp, as it is about 5 years old, so I assume that things have imroved since then(?!)

I would ideally like to spend less as little as possible!

People seem to rate Denon amps to match up with the MAs, so the 2805 is probably towards the top of the list or the 3805 if I can find them being sold off to make way for the 3806.

I have also seen the Marantz SR5600 for £350 - Is this likely to match well?

Any suggestions gratefully received. Second hand or ex-demo would also be fine.

I went from the 930 to a Denon 3805 with fantastic results. The 2805 and the 2106 would also better the 930. Look also at the later Marantz models and Yamaha also if you have a bias towards music.

I have just had another browse around this forum and getting a Yamaha RXV-2500 from Germany is definitely on the list too......

try going to sevenoaks for a 3805 and ask them what they could do you on a pair of SFX or RSFX rears at the same time, you might find it will help them lower the price of the amp.....unless your very happy with the rears you already using (or you could add these to get 7.1)

(i own the S series myself, S6, SLCR, SFX and S2's......extremely happy with them on my 3803, also have heard them with a 3805 when i was demoing my 3910)

I might well pop in to a sevenoaks tomorrow and see what they can do.

On a different note, the RX-V2500 has a GUI. How do you connect to the TV to be able to use it? My current TV only has scart sockets - Would I still be able to use it?

Not unless you get a s-vhs to scart cable. Are you sure you dont have any s-vhs inputs hanging arround as most modern (last 5 years or so) have them?

You will also need a svhs to svhs cable as well as the above.

I ran some MA silvers for many a year, and partnered them up to Arcam gear. However as I've been burned with these so called mid ~ high end manufacturers churning out overpriced and flakey crap I had a scout for somethign similar, but more reasonably priced. I found that NAD make an excellent pairing to Monitor Audios, sound very natural and to my ear almost identical to the Arcam stuff. When you check out the Denon and Marantz it's worth giving the NAD a spin too.
