I have only been in the home cinela game for about a year now and have the following system:

    Panasonic HE SA7 Amp
    Mission M73
    Mission M7C1
    Mission 77DS
    Wharfedale diamond 8 subwoofer
    28" flat screen TV
    Samsung 511 DVD player

Anyway I now feel it is time to upgrade my amplifier and was wondering how much money I would need to spend to gain a noticable difference in sound quality. I would also be looking for dolby pro logic 2 and possible 6.1 and DTS.

I have the Technics SADX950 the bigger brother of you amp.
Depending on budget and what you want from your amp a Denon 2802/3 or Marrantz SR5300/6300 should see a fair improvement in terms of specs and features. Why are you looking at upgrading? Boredom, spare cash, etc
If you upgrade your amp it will be speakers TV and DVD before you know it.
What do use the system for most?? DVD?

For the specs, For a little less

The less you spend the less improvement you will get.
Shop around and demo as many amps as possible. Also keep an eye out for special offers on ex-dem and kit in the classifieds, You will see some superb bargains pop-up like the Denon 3802's that were going for £500!!!

The only reason for a new amp is boredom. I believe that a persons home cinema set up is like a shark. It needs to keep moving forward or it dies!!
My budget is up to about £400 and it will be used mainly for DVD's.

    Hi

I use to have a Technics SADX930 which is a slightly older version of your amp.
But then I upgraded to my marantz SR4200 and I found that the sound difference was amazing considering the two amps are in the same price range.

The marantz sounded loads better with music and PL2 in my opinion is loads better than the normal prologic on the technics amp.

Although I must say that the Technics amp was a good amp for the money and it had loads of power.

So I would say that you don't need to spend a lot more on top of the value of your amp to getter a better sound. Some may disagree.

    hope this helps

I would have to agree with Marantz, I do prefer the SR6300, but the SR5300 is a very good performer as well, and from personal experience Marantz and Mission sound wonderful together:)

Wanting PLII and a good step up in performance and features i would highly recommend you look at the Denon 3802, as with the 3803 now on sale you should get one for around £400-450 new via various dealers, look around and try to get a home demo.

I seem to be getting the feeling that my DSP AX620 isn't highly regarded in AV circles. I like it, having upgraded from a Sony Pro logic receiver and although people say it's lacking in music quality, I can't really fault it at all. Perhaps I am easily pleased. I bought one for my son for Christmas from Currys for £150 (new!!) and got myself a second user one from eBay for £180. It's got to be a good buy at that price? Tell me I'm right, please !!!!
