Amp Advice - Onkyo 818 Overkill ?

Hi,

So I was considering to buy the New Onkyo Tx-NR818.
But thought to just get quick check to see if this is a wise move....

Just bought a 55ES8000 Samsung, and have a setup where my 7.1 speakers are perfectly positioned according to the advice on the Dolby website.

The speakers I currently have is a 7.1 Mordaunt Short Alumni setup dating back a few years.

Gonna pretty much use it for Movies / HD Sky Channels at a roughly equal split.

So to the question - will an 818 Onkyo be a good choice or is it overkill ?

I was particually drawn to the ISF Video calibration feature and the Audyssey MultEQ XT32 - but, again, are these overkill features ?

Thanks
:)

Well anything is only as strong as its weakest link. So you certainley dont want something worse than your speakers! The reasons you mention, one has nothing to do with sound quality. The other perhaps type of sound but actual quality I doubt. So perhaps some more thought after hopefully more forum feedback.
