Any suggestions of anything good i might not have exposure to here? With a few exceptions, I pretty much hate everything that comes out in theaters now! I enjoy movies from all categories, I just like them to be well done and somewhat clever.

    Thanks!

A couple of films I really like, all within the last 5 years:

Eye In The Sky, Kajiki, Locke, Ghost Stories, Filth
    (UK)
    Son of Saul (Hungary)
The Lobster, Killing of a Sacred Deer (Greece)
    Elle (France/Germany)
    The Handmaiden, The Wailing (Korea)
What we do in the Shadows, Hunt for the Wilderpeople (New Zealand)
    The Babadook (Australia)
    In Order of Disappearance (Norway)

'systemsdead can provide you with a much bigger list probably.

Incidentally you dont need to go outside the United States to find quality non-Hollywood fare: check out most of A24's filmography (studio based out of New York). Some of the best modern films you will see and they include some of the films above.

One of my favourite films of recent years has to be the Argentinian set 'The Secret In Their Eyes'. It's a wonderfully made sprawling crime drama, with a killer ending that's guaranteed to get you talking about it afterwards. It deservedly won Best Foreign Film at the 2010 Oscars too. Just avoid the vastly inferior US remake like the plague.

Definitely Eye In The Sky, caught it on TV last night and couldn't stop watching.

Wasn't Hugh Grant in that one? Joking aside it's an old film and the op wants newish films though I'd recommend Sammie And Rosie Get Laid from roughly the same era. Both are favourites of mine.
