AMD B550 mother board - thoughts ?

Hi,

For my sins I find myself looking to build a new PC for my Son at this terrible time for PC hardware availability and price. I am likely going to upgrade my own PC and use the spares for the bulk for his build.

Starting with the CPU, Ram and Motherboard I am considering getting a AMD 5600x and 16 or 32GB 3600 Ram, and so I think a B550 motherboard will suit my needs/wallet best. I dont need a Z board.

So anyone got any suggestions on which AMD B550 motherboard is a good one - can be ATX or MircoATX (which I have now) as my case is full size.

  • Using a 5600x AMD CPU
  • ATX or mATX is fine
  • Cost is important after that performance for gaming.
  • 4 RAM slots
  • 2 NVMe would be nice
  • Dont need WiFi
  • Dont Need RGB
  • Dont need good Sound - using an external DAC
  • Dont need 2.5GB ethernet really.
  • Dont Overclock

Any advice would be appreciated.
I have a Silverstone R06 case and Corsair RM750x PSU already so once this is done the dreaded GPU hunt will begin.

Seems to do fairly well in the Hardware Unboxed testing.

Scored that for £86.90 with free shipping on amazon just now - at that price had to pull the trigger

Pays to be up late these days for online purchases.

Anyone got any RAM recommendations for this build - will be using a 5600x CPU. Is it better to get good 3200 or cheaper 3600 (likely 32GB)

When I ran some tests last year on my 3700X my 3200 CL14 ram performed much better than some 3600 CL18 I tried, not tried the same on my 5800X as I sent the 3600Mhz ram back.
