Ambilights staying on with dark/black scenes - When will Philips finally fix it?

Hi there, can I also get this link for my 806. I reported this to Philips early Dec and they have done nothing but try to close the ticket.
Sent, please check your PM )

P.S. I am not sending it over in the topic just because do not want Philips (if they read this forum at all) to decide that I am circulation some unofficial software )))

Thank you, appreciate your help and so quickly. You should offer Philips customer service training as there is a huge gap there.

I assume I should read it as "Please share this link with me" )) :) If this assumption is correct - you can find the link in your PM ))
Hi Alexander
Please could you DM me a link as well. I recently bought a 65 706 and won the panel lottery! Bought via Spatial Online...great service...after their hauler went bust the Marketing Manager delivered himself. Also at £1299 price.
I have the firmware ending .012 and ambilight is fine but every time I turn tv on it asks to update...one day the kids will click update, I just know it, so would like this firmware in reserve as it were.
Very happy with the tv, a couple of glitches but nothing concerning me.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I tried but could not send you the PM:

The following recipients have reached their maximum allowed inbox limit: Bassguy101.

Try to remove something from your inbox and send me a PM.

Alternatively, if .012 is OK for you, you can just disable automatic FW updates in order to avoid accidental update to the version which would destroy Ambilight behavior.

FYI: I believe 706, 806 and 936 share the same FW installation package, but I checked personally only 806 and 936 (for which the FW files downloaded from Philips support page are identical).

Thanks I have deleted inbox if you can try again?
I can disable autouodate but it reminds you every time you turn the tv on again and inevitably someone will pres the wrong button :)
Thanks

Hi Alexander, I have the 65OLED706
I'm having a similar issue as above, except mine works fine on the TV ambilight but is linked to additional lights (HUE PLAY BARS) showing a white light even when in use in Game mode.

Do you know if this software fixes the issue as well as my model being compatible with it? If so, please could you PM me as I'd appreciate that :)

Is it easy to install? Don't want to end up bricking anything haha!

I only know that TPM211EA_R.001.002.092.000 fixes "Ambilight white light issue" on 936 and 806. With regards "Ambilight+Hue issues" I think you can ask here or in parallel threads - maybe someone who've installed it could share his experience.

Regarding compatibility, as I mentioned above, seems like it is the same file, but to be sure I would suggest that you download FW zip file for OLED 936 (or OLED806) and OLED706 from the official site and compare them in order to be sure that they are identical.

BTW, what is your current FW version?

please could you PM me as I'd appreciate that :)
Sure, please check your PM - it is there ))

Yes, it is easy to install, you will just need to unzip the file and copy it onto the USB flash drive (the complete process is described in the User Manual).

However, if you do not have TV Ambilight "white light" issue I would not recommend to proceed with installing this FW before you get some confirmation from others that it would help with "Ambilight+Hue white light".

Thanks Alexander, I'll hold off for now as I don't have the same issue as described (or not tested it so) I use mine in Game mode always.

I'm not at home atm but I'll try to check and post the firmware when I find it

Could you please kindly change the name of the Topic from:

"Ambilights staying on with dark/black scenes - Philips will not fix it."

to:

"Ambilights staying on with dark/black scenes - when will Philips finally fix it?"

so that it would not sound that fatal and hopeless? )

Many people have opened cases in Philips Support and do not lose hope to get the Ambilight issue resolved.

Thanks Alexander
You are welcome )

Why should moderators change name of someone's thread? It sounds like you are trying to wipe keywords from search results to retain philips positive marketing drive "philips finally fix it"...
It must sound fatal and hopeless to bring attention as Philips tried to fob off same users now for months.

Hope - is when you get a official reply from manufacturer with public acknowledgment of mistake, apology for not understanding consumer requirements and timescales of fix ;)

Especially when we talk about coding, consumers should be left with freedom of choice, here philips took that away from them and modified product functionality without their consent...
Owners now have to spend their time on support, dealing with firmware downgrades and anxiety/fear it wont work ever as before... Ruined their tv experience by just cutting away/changing some code?

Totally agree with what you've said. The only idea behind that was that new disappointed Philips users which would see "... - Philips will not fix it" may lose optimism and consider this as a fatality and thus would not raise a ticket at Philips Support.

The more people will raise the cases at Philips, the more chances to get this stupid Ambilight issue fixed.

As for now - half of the answers from Philips says "it is going to be fixed in the next FW", half says "we've decided that it is normal behavior from now, do not bother us, it is OK, enjoy".

However, hopefully, Philips have kept some common sense and it will prevail.

I agree and have changed the name of the thread to your suggestion.

I understand your point and aim with this, but this is not first time we go over this. There were other issues which users collectively pursued philips to fix and yet it never happened. Philips only reacts when return rate high, or media buzzes damaging keywords. Bombard every single media channel and reviewer/influencer about this issue and see what happens within weeks.
Remember you paid for experience, not for optimistic wait in hope for experience;)

Updated my 65 706 to latest firmware 0.26 reluctantly as IPlayer stopped working (again) Ambilight seems the same as before for me with lights off on black screen. I use game mode, natural is also ok but there is a low glow, nothing nuclear like some of the images on here.
IPlayer still not working after reboot?

Well... I got a response from Philips.

Thanks for your patience so far.

We have now received feedback from our specialists that we are happy to share with you:

------
This version (TPM211EA_R.001.002.092.000) indeed exists and can be used on an OLED806, assuming that it's a PKG file (otherwise, a downgrade will be rejected by the TV, of course).

However, it will not solve the AmbiLight behavior since the behavior is rooted in the FRC firmware, which will not be touched during the downgrade.

We are not at liberty to tell whether user xyz in the forum has been provided this version from our end due to GDPR reasons.
------

With this in mind, we are unable to provide you with this version. Nor can we offer you a solution, because this is not a defect, but normal behavior of the TV and a downgrade will not offer a solution.

Hoping to have informed you enough with this, I wish you a nice day.

And the next e-mail right after is an e-mail telling me my case has been closed...

I am soooooo unbelievably pissed off right now! How is this proper customer care? You drastically change how an important feature of a product behaves and then simply say "it's not a defect but normal behavior"??? Wow... just wow..

Well... I got a response from Philips.
Oh...

I think - as per some posts at this forum - that they are right that downgrade would not help to restore proper Ambilight behavior (without white light in all modes) if it has been already broken by .022 or .026 but point is that installing TPM211EA_R.001.002.092.000 will not be a downgrade because it has a newer build date (Jan 3, 2022) and a higher number than officially available 001.001.233.026. (And that is why it does fix Ambilight).

At least they've acknowledged that this FW exists :rotfl: ("This version (TPM211EA_R.001.002.092.000) indeed exists and can be used on an OLED806") and thus it is shall be no issue at all to use it both on 806 and 936 as they share some .zip package.
