Whats the shipping like with amazon.co.jp? I ordered & had shipped a DVD over 2 weeks ago & it hasn't arrived? Is this the norm?

I have ordered a few things from them and the longest it has taken to Dublin is 2 weeks. They say on the site to expect 3-4 weeks for standard shipping, so you should probably wait a little longer before getting on to them.

Tell me about it, that pushes this ghostbusters one disc only up to about £30  i just hope the pq and sound are worth it. I really cannot think that it is anything else as i have plenty of dvs on order but non due yet.

I havent been caught by customs before so as an overall % of items purchased over the years it is really small, well thats how i am trying to bring myself to terms with it

I've started watching my copy, and i'm not terrably impressed thus far. The picture is grainy, especially the dark areas of the picture, and there isn't much shadow detail. It has a high contrast look. The picture isn't as sharp as most of the other superbits I own.

Disappointing if the pic isn't better, what do you think of the DTS soundtrack is it an improvment on the Dolby 5.1 track of the old release ?

34" PDP being fed 480p from a dvd player with a good film deinterlacer, the screen is calibrated. Increasing the brightness doesn't reveal any more detail in the dark areas of the picture with ghostbusters.

On the plus side there's no edge enhancement and not many specks/black marks. Only some scenes are grainy, not all. PQ definately got better further on in the film! finished watching it now.

Right managed to watch Ghostbusters last night and am relatively happy with it.

The picture quality i thought was pretty sharp and had a pronounced depth to it, it isnt the best pq i have seen but it is good with no edge enhancement (well i couldnt see any) ,there is slight grain which is noticable in some scenes but nothing really worth mentioning imo.

There is quite a lot of bass extension to the DTS mix, reading the original R1 review the dolby 5.1 track was lacking in bass but this definitely makes up for it. When the stay puft man is on screen my room was shaking :D and when they turn their proton packs on it really felt like i was actually in the proton pack :D :smashin:

Oh well it had to end... just got the note for a customs charge... but it was £18 for the above 4 items.. so buying in bulk does seem to be cheaper in the long run.. hope the double leon set is nice !

I can't decide on whether to upgrade my current Region 1 edition of Ghostbusters, does anyone recommend upgrading or would you say the picture and sound quality are not a major leap or advancement over the old release ?

    Foxymulder

I've just had a look at a couple of key sequences on Ghostbuster and used a my Pal region 2 disc to make a comparison. The first thing I noticed is that the Superbit appeared very grainy at the side of the Pal disc. There was a little grain present on the Pal disc, however the picture was much cleaner and smoother with grain being less intrusive. The Superbits contrast levels also appeared too high. In a comparison on the opening shot of the library on chapter 3 the brick work looks almost bleached out to me. The Pal disc looks much more natural with colour fidelity being more accurate. If you look at the fine detail of the brick work and collums etc the Pal disc dare I say it looks a little sharper with more detail present. The bitrate on the Superbit appears to hover between 5 - 7 mbps, which isn't much higher than the standard release.
In conclusion as far as the picture is concerned the Superbit is a real disapointment with the standard release having a more film-like appearance.

The DTS track is however the Superbits redeeming factor! The DTS track does add a new dimention to soundtrack with a fuller and more dynamic mix. I wouldn't say it's a dramatic improvement, but when you consider the film is now some 20 years old I honestly don't think that Ghostbusters will ever sound much better than this.

Overall I have to say I'm disappointed. I was hoping for great things with this release and the picture quality in my oppinion is a bit of a let down. The soundrack does make some ammends, but when you consider that you can pick up the standard version for less than a tenner loaded with bonus material the expensive Superbit starts to loose its appeal!

In answer to your question I would personally stick with your region 1 disc. I think this one is strictly for collectors and DTS fans.

    popeye :)
