Digital Video Essentials (NTSC version) shipped from Amazon.com yesterday -- only need Digital Video Essentials (PAL version) shipped from Play.com to arrive and I can attempt a better calibration of my plasma. Just checked Play.com and unfortunately Digital Video Essentials (PAL) is delayed until 20 October. Wonder if there will ever be a PAL version of Avia? Perhaps I should finally get Gordon in? Gordon, I'm getting (fingers crossed!) a Pioneer 433MXE delivered tomorrow. From what you've posted in the past, it's best to wait for 100hrs of use before calibrating. Is there anything you would reccomend doing out of the box - basic ball park changes to contrast/brightness (more to be nice to the screen than to improve picture per-say)? Anyway, I'm based in London and with StooMonster claiming to be in Kent that's 2 South East based customers. How many of us does it take to be worth your treking down this end of the country? Yours, /\/\j17
I'm down all the time. Stoo and I have been chatting about this for a while but other stuff has got in the way. Yes I'd wait for around 100hrs although I don't think it makes a huge difference from what I measured with my own from 0 hrs to 100 odd. Best thing to do is turn contrast down considerably or use MODE2 for first 100 HRS. Gordon
Gordon, just contrast, or constrast and brightness? and by turn it down, do you mean make it look like a Samsung plasma or just a few %?
Just Contrast. I have no figures as I do it in service menu not user menu. Stick it to Mode 2 and leave it at that just now Gordon
Gordon, just out of interest have you ever done (!) a Hitachi 42PD3000 or other ALIS screen and was there a big improvement/change? Cheers Dave
As 'Digital Video Essentials' claims to be so good and up to date then why doesn't it come in both pal and ntsc all on one disc. i know this is technically possible. therefore as this product is aimed solely at members of interest forums such as these, it should be an all in one package, as most users watch both pal and ntsc dvd's therefore particularly us plazy owners know that the plazma selects completely different setups pages for whatever signal its receiving. i can forsee a number of users buying this disk, setting there system up with it (PAL), loading a R1 disk and thinking that looks crap no change from the last time i watched it.
I thought that it was against the license to do such a disc. No I've not done an Alis panel fully yet as I am unsure if all the settings required are available. I have had enquiries and was going to come and do one but the owner got rid of it and swapped to a Pioneer instead Gordon
Speaking of that owner, he would like to have his DVI input calibrated to HTPC (which arrives Friday) and some other inputs from Lumagen recalibrated, he will email to arrange, well so he tells me
Well the NTSC finally version arrived from Amazon.com this very morning. Looking forward to giving it a spin, and less than a month to PAL version. And my decorators have finally left, plasma is back on wall, and ready for a calibration. I'll have a go at self calibration, but think I'll talk to Gordon at The Event II and finally arrange something. StooMonster
