    Hi

I am looking for a cheap system to give stereo sound for in the bedroom.

    The setup is as follows:
    21inc Toshiba TV (mono)
    Sony VHS Player
    JVC DVD Player
    old Nokia Freeview STB

There is only one SCART on the back of the TV, but that is connected to a switch box. I just want to improve sound from mono to stereo and with some base.

I would like something discreet or at least small in form (e.g. flat or small speakers and a subwoofer that can be hidden). I have though of buying cheap Wharfdale Flat Panel speakers, do I need a separate AMP or is it in the sub woofer - can you suggest any thing else? I am not expecting HiFi sound, I just want something better than the tiny speaker in the TV!

    Thanks

    Matt

teac mcdx10 @ £180 wall mounting system with small sub, good sound for your pound!
or Denon ADVM71 now going at £350 with speakers, this will also be a dvd player and do virtual surround and still sounds just as good as the well respected DM31!

If you want to keep your existing kit then I would look at the range topping 5.1/7.1 computer speaker systems from Creative Labs and Logitech. £200 will buy a top of the range set with remote control decoder and enough inputs for all your kit. £100 will buy you a more modest surround set or a very good 2.1 set.

Can you recommend a good 2.1 setup, I don't want 5 speakers dotted around the bedroom, so 2.1 would be fine!

I've got a Logitech 4.1 system but this set is the 2.1 version. Plenty of reviews info on the net. Can be had here for a good price. Your local PC World may have the for about £150 but you could probably try them out in-store if they have a demo set.

The Videologic ZXR range seem well regarded, although I am not too sure about connectivity within your set-up. Could be worth a look though.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

Good point about connectivity if you buy a speaker set with just one input then you'll need a input switch box (£10-20 from ebay or maplin).

I think my SCART switch box has audio outputs??? Alternatively I can daisy chain the DVD into the VCR into the STB into the TV and take the sound from there! :)

Accoustic Energy Aego 2 - two very small but solid speakers and an amplified sub appr. 30x30x30 cm. (to fit under your bed) - all for £99.99. Decent sound and no worries.
