Hit this car hte other day, an old 25 year old Golf it was. No one around so i left my details on the windscreen. Turns out this car has sentimental value for the lady owner( it belonged to her Grandad) and she was most distraught when she saw her bumper lying on the road and her wing smashed in . Anyway the repair will probably cost more than the car is worth and I'll most likely lose my NCB but surely its worth it as my conscience will be ok ,she'll be happy again and i'll be able tpo show my face on the street where it happened which just so happens to have a fairly close community. One of my customers lives there.Anyway the reason i mentioned it is because my neighbour just told me a friend of his had his car smashed in and the perpetrator lefty a message on his windscreen which said " Just as well you werent around when I hit it" and drove off. Idiot! People generally dont bother reporting minor accidents i know, but that ????Is this what the country is coming to?

In the last 6 mths my parents car has been hit twice in a car-park. Both times it was fairly minor (but enough to need a repair bill). :thumbsdow

Niether time did the driver(s) have the courtesy to do what you did and leave a note, so fair play sir.

    As in

"Lucky you weren't in the car and didn't get hurt by the incident."

    or

"Look what you made me do. Lucky you weren't there or I'd have kicked your teeth in."?

Dear sir, I am leaving this note on your windscreen as I have just hit your car. People who are watching me write this think that I'm leaving my name and address. I'm not.

ha you think thats bad, i have debts upto my eyeballs and dont even make 20k a year, and when i hit a mercedes in a SMALL car park i was bricking it(i actually scraped some paint off his bumper). still had the guts to leave my number tho.

and as proof you can look at threads created by me as it was last christmas sometime (or year before)

needless to say the guy let me off *phew*

and what you know, my mondeo hardly has a mark! :D german engineering PAH!

well other than the hundreds of scratches where i've been to car parks and not a single person left me a note to say sorry!

Good man, you're one of a dying breed. I bought a new Civic Type R when the 04 plate was the new plate and it was damaged whilst parked up overnight and it was only nine days old. Needless to say, no driver details were left for me. It cost over £1100.00 to repair. I was extremely  at the time.

    Geoff.

Dont wish to portray myself as some kind of holier than thou kind of bloke but after speaking to the lady in question I could see the car meant a lot to her and it made me feel good that I was able to reassure her. Besides I willl probably see her from time to time as she lives on the street I work in sometimes and knows my customer there. I just feel something positive coming out of it thats all and after what my own neighbour told me about that idiot( taking the piss:thumbsdow) I just felt I needed to relate it.

    Good on you LGS :smashin:

I wish the idiot you used my old Fiat Punto as a buffer had left a note. That one cost me £900 odd for a new front wing, door, and rear quarter bit

Fortunately i haven`t been in a situation where i would have to leave a not (yet), and to be honest, i can`t say if i would or not

My gripe is with the insurance company . When i spoke to them they led me to believe there would be no problem and that the claim would be met in full. Just spoke to the lady whose car i hit and she told me they sent an assesor round who was very rude to her pointing out all the car defects etc and then promptly sent her a cheque for two thirds the amount of the repair claiming it was a right off..I have offered to stump up the other third as long as its not more and I shall have words with Provident tomorrow. No need for rudeness!

Yeah I would have to say good on you LGS.

Its hard to guess what people are like from reading their posts on here, but for some reason I'm not surprised you did this. You always come across as a civil fella.

The only thing I'm curious about, and perhaps you are happily married (I don't know), is how hot this lady owner is?? You wouldn't have ulterior motives would you, you old rascal !!

no mate none at all, I have NOT met her . I spoke to her a few times and she comes across very whiney. My Missus is not very impressed with her from what she has heard of her, that is, on the phone but I'v got to do the right thing I feel.Must admit if it had me I would have taken what was on offer and be glad of it:confused:

my current truck has a wider and longer payload than the previous one nad i have to be a lot more mindful when doing manouvres . Unfortuanately the road I was on is narrow and i was trying to park in front of the Golf but didnt take enough account of the width of my own vehicle. Scruunch!:(

Insurance company have already paid her 200 quid write off money as they said the repair would cost about £700 and the car is only worth about £200 , but she is wanting more.Odd because at first she was quite happy accepting £200 directly from me just to get the car road worthy. She then told me she had a quote for £300 for the whole repair which I was happy to meet via insurance except they'll only pay £200 after the assesors saw the state of the car.I offered to pay the extra 100 but my wife thinks she is trying it on.
