This is what happens to an LCD panel, if you launch a Wii Remote at it a little bit too hard while not wearing the strap!

My girlfriends 9 year old cousin is the culprit, while bowling! He managed to clip the sofa, knocking it out of his hand flying into my now smashed LCD panel on my Sony 40W...

    Be warned! :(

Oh dear, that's really bad news. :(

I always make a point of wearing the strap (and making others do the same) even on the most lethargic of games. :)

It might be painful for you to look at, but I think it's rather pleasing to the eye.

Maybe you should sell it to a gallery? :D

I hope you kicked him in his 9yr old nuts!

How my cousin's 50" samsung hasnt had a wiimote through it is beyond me!

He's got 4 kids and they dont wear wriststraps or the grip-sleeve thingy. His boy actually takes a run-up to do bowling.I just sit there and wince and wait for the screen to smash.

Hope you get it sorted fella.

Ouch - not good at all; hope it's covered by insurance?

That would be an instant case of banination (if not amputation!) - he definitely wouldn't be playing on any of my equipment ever again... even when he's 40 :)

Wearing the Wii remote wrist strap has become something akin to wearing a seatbelt when driving - always, always, always - even if you're just driving around the corner (or in the Wii world, swimming in Endless Ocean, or checking the weather, or something innocuous). If the habit develops to not wear it, tragedy can strike as demonstrated here...

    Ouch

Nice of Sony to come up with such a pretty failure mode though ;)

You are not alone - have a look at Wiidamage.com...

    Sorry to see that

I lay down the law to my mates. Granted they are twice as old as the age of the examples above... but no wrist strap, no Wii. Simple as in my book

It was an accident at the end of the day. It's definately gonna be an 'Accidental Damage' insurance claim. I don't think they can say it wasn't an accident. Do I own up to using a Wii or not though?

It's not like the boy had a fit of rage because he messed up his bowl attempt and then chucked the Wii remote at the TV. If he had, he would have been accidentally belted around the back of his legs before being launched upstairs to bed...*

    * Please note, I am not a violent person, this was a joke!

Difficult one that, as we all know insurance companies will try to get out of paying up if they can, and I am sure this is not the first Wii accident they will have come across.

Technically by not wearing the wiimote strap they could argue that the person involved was negligent in not following the proper safety guidlines for the equipment in use (a perfectly reasonable arguement) and most insurance companies have a disclaimer against acts of negligence

My nieces and nephews always wear the strap otherwise the Wii goes off. Adults on the other hand have the choice.....but then they earn money ot pay for a TV if they break it :D

Well regardless of wearing the strap or not, I am banning Wii's from my house for now, it was borrowed off my sister by the way. :D

The insurance company are sending someone out to see if it can be repaired. I doubt it.

    Yeah I know, i'm still without a replacement. It's so frustrating. :(

I carried my Tosh EP30 up to my PC at the weekend, just so I could get a HD-DVD hit... :rotfl:

Well it's funny how things work out. After being given the go ahead from the insurance company, I have ordered a new TV, finally. As my 40W2000 is discontinued I have gone for a Sony 40W3000 & DAV-IS10 DVD/Surround package from Empire Direct!

Only thing is, the TV is 7-10 day delivery! I have been without a TV all this time, a little longer won't hurt too much, honest... :(

I am thinking of getting Wii for my 4 year olds and cannot be sure they always tuck the strap on.Would the silicone grips alone help?

The grips are there more to avoid injury as opposed to providing a better grip. (e.g if you get hit with the wii-mote etc)

One option would be to always supervise them when playing if thats possible, and make sure they use the strap. :smashin:
