Does anyone know of an alternative to Play247 for the supply of region 2 DVDs?
www.dvd.co.uk seem OK. I've only ordered one thing from them (Buffy s4), but it arrived promptly, was well packaged and was cheaper than anywhere else!
I get my Buffy and Angel fixes from them, and they've always been prompt and cheapest.
started using Future entertainment for a few orders, they're faster and alot of their titles are cheaper
I've used splashdvd.com a couple of times with no problems. They take up to 7 days to deliver but their prices are good and the price quoted always includes delivery
DVD Popcorn can be good value for box sets, and StreetsOnline when they have one of their 10% (more) off sales.
Streets charge £1 for shipping no matter how many discs you order at one time - and then seem to ship separately anyway! They don't use recorded delivery which is good if one can't guarantee to be in when the postie's around. (I live at the end of the round where I live - the post can arrive anytime between 9:30 and 12:30!)
Don't forget Movietyme
Try a few,
I use www.dvdpricecheck.co.uk , this searches the whole world but you can set it to use just region 2 as well.
www.cd-wow.com is pretty good, although they carry a limited range. Useful for cheap new releases, all R1 though which some other non-R2 versions now and again.
If you play Banana Lotto (which is free) you can invariably win a couple of 50p off vouchers for use on cd-wow which makes them even better value.
Sorry but why do you want an alternative ?
They are generally the cheapest
Its mainly because having spent around six grand with them over the last four years, I was expecting better customer service when I discovered my copy of The Terminator would no longer play.
many thanks for the suggestions, I have put them all on to my favourites list and will study them closely.
Did you politely mention that to them?
If you haven't already done so.... I'd email them asking for the CEO's name and address and write him/her a polite letter that explains this, tells them how disappointed you are, and informs them what you would like them to do about it (if you have already contacted customer services, tell him/her that and say that you were not happy with the response which is why you are writing to the CEO). You'd be amazed how often they listen to formal letters like these. It's worked for me many times, but you're probably gonna say that you can't be ar5ed and shouldn't have to do that anyway right?
You are quite correct Squirrel.
I am disappointed that my custom wasnt valued by them. Legally it may not be their responsibility, I dont know.
I also understand that they are essentially box shifters and at the prices they charge we maybe shouldnt expect too much.
Its true that I could probably get more if I pushed but they have already annoyed me now and as far as I am concerned they can bog off
Even if their original reply had been worded in a more sympathetic tone it would probably have helped.
I didnt mean to be nosey. I wondered if like me you had had your account closed by them due to an error that they themselves had made.
all the best
You werent nosey nob, its nice that you took an interest mate
My relationship with play had been excellent from day one, I had 2 discs not arrive which they replaced without fuss and on a couple of occasions they sent the wrong item which were swapped.
Thats not bad out of about 400+ dvds
Tell us what happened to you nob
I must of bought at least 100 dvd's from them. Then 1 day I placed an order for 4 items and they duplicated the order for 3 of them.1 was a pre-order so I stopped that easily. The 2 others I tried to stop but they sent them anyway! So thats 4 dvd's instead of 2.They sent them recorded delivery so I thought no probs when they turn up I'll return them.Except they never turn up.But the post office say they have delivered them, but have not got a signiture. So I tell play247 this and they say no probs we will refund you....Then they change their mind and say they wont refund me. So I contact my credit card company and they stop the charge on my card.
Play get the right hump and cancel my account.
And thats where I am at the mo.
If the post office failed to get a signature for recorded delivery items, the sender is entitled to claim the cost from the post office.
Play should know this and you should not even come into the equation.
Good luck with it anyway
Yeah I know
But it seems as though they couldnt be bothered.
In the meantime im trying to recover it.
good luck with your disk.
could you not get another and send your original back as faulty ?
I thought about doing that but foolishly felt Play might do the right thing by a good customer if I was honest.
Only the extras disc is affected so it is now more about plays attitude than about the disc.
I always use Play when I am not worried about delivery time and want pretty much the best price. However, when you absolutely MUST have a film BEFORE the scheduled release (two weeks B4 regularily) then I use www.discemporium.com.
Delivery is good but the prices are mostly at the £21 mark for new releases. Also, they are 95% Region 1 only.
I have used both of these many, many times and can fault either.
I use www.dvdpricecheck.co.uk since Play upset me a bit a while back. Their loss as my business goes elsewhere now.
To be truthful, I have bought only 1 disc from them since, and that was Seven R1.
I can now get my discs a lot cheaper by looking around and service is pretty much the same.
