Alternatives to Hue Bridge

I got carried away with Hue when I moved into my home and as a result all bulbs are now Hue and connected via 3 bridges (as there are too many bulbs/switches for a single one). I unify the bridges using home assistant on Raspberry Pi so that there is a single interface if needed.

I had a scare with one of the bridges acting up. Thankfully a reboot brought it back to life but it strikes me that the bridges are significant failure points and one going down would result in a significant amount of work to set up the system again.

Questions are:

Is there really no way to back up a hue bridge? Google suggest there isn’t but I’m happy to go down an unofficial route.

Is there an alternative to a hue bridge I could use? Either a different signee fridge which could handle all lights or a DIY bridge built on some suitable PC, eg another Linux machine.
