I have been following the A11 threads on this forum with interest over the last few months as I was interested in buying one. I have now decided against this because Denon haven't been able to sort out the 'macroblocking' issue (I have a Panny5 which apparently shows this problem more than other players)

Sooooo..... with this in mind, I want an 'equivalent' dvd player that will work very well with my current set-up (see signature below). Any recommendations please?

One final question - if you are using component connection from your dvd player to your plasma, how do you go about connecting a Sky / Sky+ box into the system? (all my kit is currently connected via RGB but I want to go to component progressive scan with my new dvd player?)

    Cheers

Marantz DV12 could be worth a look- it is another DVI equipped universal. I've used it at shows and it seems to be issue free. It is extremely well built in addition to the unit performance.

Thanks for the reply - it looks like a good spec machine but at £2k its out of my price range to be honest. Im looking at around £1500 max. Plus I still don't know how im going to deal with the sky+ / component connection problem!

    Cheers

I would look at the Arcam DV79 as an option, very good performance indeed.

I would hold out for Onkyo SP-DV1000

    http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=DV-SP1000&class=DVD&p=i

    THX Ultra
    Wolfson 192 kHz/24-Bit playback DAC
    I-link
    HDMI
Silicon Image SIL-504 de-interlacer chip (the same as DVDO ISCAN's which is the best on the market)
and all the rest of Onkyo's really good technology and all the other latest features.

Price in UK not known, as it hasn't arrived here yet. But in Hong Kong it costs around 1150pounds. In US, it costs $2000.

    Thanks again chaps...

Wasabi - I can't see anything in the specs about progressive scan?? Does it exist in the SP-DV1000? If so, is it for PAL and NTSC?

    Cheers

    Merritt,

The SIL 504 chip takes care of the deinterlacing to produce 480p and it will also upscale to 720p, 768p (very useful for HD plasmas) or 1080i. Nice to see HDMI and iLink included too. Hope this helps.

It seems Marantz have a DV9500 due out later in the year which seems to have most of the salient features of the DV12 (although DVI is switched to HDMI) and if there is any sense to the pricing should come in at £1400-1500 ish.
