I am coming to the decision that I can't live with the remote control on the 3805. Coupled with the fact that the whole amp is up the spout right now, I am considering replacing it with something else.

Can anyone recommend an alternative in a similar price range?

I suppose an alternative is a decent learning remote. How much would that cost?

    TIA

    Depends what you need.

The Pioneer VSX-AX5iS is comparable, but it doesn't do video upscaling.

Can't you get a seperate video converter, instead? I mean, it seems a shame selling something you like just for the video conversion.

and i got one! and avr300 i mean.

as i posted the 3805 stereo thread, i tried both and found the Arcam to be
much more to my liking in stereo and definately equal (though different) in movies.

Yup, Arcam AVR300 is probably one of the best in that price range.

Yamaha RXV2400 is another option, but not sure how musical itis or if it does video upscaling.

You're right, the remote is close to unusable...worst piece of crap I've ever seen...
    Do like me:
Order a cheap Dell Axim X3 Standard (they have it discounted since the X30 hit the market, the X3 has an exceptional ir range, the X30 is less powerful but still much better than your average HP) and install TR or PDAWIN and write a nice ccf file, or download from remotecentral.com.
You'll end up with a REAL touch screen, and can read the paper by its light!

How far does it work from? I have an older iPaq, which doesn't do the job.

    PS
Don Stratton is the developer of Total Remote, which is still a bit buggy, but he's working on it- for the time being I prefer PDAWIN.
You're right BTW, most Ipaqs don't really hack it; must bend over the coffeetable for the Plasma and sideways too for the receiver...would've brought me a hernia- or even worse: Having to stand up and walk :suicide: towards the kit :D

Unexpectedly, got a msg from the shop that offered me an AVR300 for 1390 Euro's they will have it in next Tuesday or Wednesday, so I may end up owning a H.K. AVR-5550, a Denon AVR-3805 and an AVR-300 soon...
Ah well could always sell my car...this is what happens to a guy that wants EVERYTHING friends...
Now I must find my trainers to make a good run for the door after I paid for the Arcam... :D

Does it mean if I was to buy an amp with an upscaler it will improve the pic quality of my digibox through my panny 500 pj.

Very doubtful - I bought the one from CPC to connect my Sat receiver's RGB out to the AVR-3805 compenent inputs and I saw almost no difference, in fact the colors seemed a bit washed out.
So I am going to dispose of the thing and just use the single yellow connection.
I can see that the DVD (components output) is sharper.
But I believe that upconverting cannot improve on a video mode.
And there some VERY expensive converters around...some cost more than a suitable Sat tuner with component out...

Thats true to an extent, but it all depends on how your display handles the various video inputs aswell.

For instance, I own a Panny PWD6 Plasma and it handles component connections better than RGB. Therefore I have my Sky+ digibox outputting an RGB signal to the JS Tech RGBtoYUV convertor box and then to a Component terminal board. This gives me a better quality picture than if I were to connect it directly using RGB scart.

    Interesting!
Could you tell a bit more on where the quality differences lie- noise? sharpness?
My CPC is, adimittedly, a cheapy o0f 50 pounds or so...
And as I looked Sat receivers with real component output are scarce...
