Good review - I’ve been binge watching over the last few days. I wasn’t familiar with the novel but still found this a great watch. The production values for a tv show are incredible. Shows are like this are why I prefer Netflix for streaming - George

I'll give this a go soon. Other reviews for this have been mixed at best, so I shall go in with low expectations.

Not that I need more things to watch. At the rate Netflix add shows I'd need to quit my job and watch TV 24/7 to stand any chance of keeping up.

      Many thanks Cas,

Wasn’t sure about this after seeing the trailer. However binge watching it will be no issue for me as I am just getting out of hospital after an accident that broke an my right ankle and left foot!
So i have a few months to watch tv :)

      Cheers!

A very good Sci-fi series in my opinion.
I couldnt help noticing the big changes they made comparing to the book and that might have spoiled my experience a little.
Still better than most other Sci-fi/Cyberpunk series though.

Like BigD, only watched the first two episodes, already enjoying it. And have to agree, it looks stunning in Dolby Vision.

      Probably the best i've seen......

Watched the first episode last night. Utterly stunning to look at. You really can't believe this isn't some big Hollywood production sometimes. This really is a case of a similar future to Blade Runner, but looking much better. HDR worked really well in this too. All those neon lights and ads popped off the screen.
Anyway, I enjoyed it. A lot of scene setting in the first one, and I think it's going to be a complicated storyline, but well worth sticking with.

7 eps in now, it’s very good, sometimes I feel the story/plotlines get a bit convoluted but it always brings me back with a cool scen.
I might try and finish off the last three eps in one sitting

Finished this last night. I found it a touch messy throughout, plot-wise. But it really sticks the landing with what I found to be a very satisfying conclusion that left me really hoping for season 2 renewal. For a while it did feel a little like style over substance, but it it really does come good. Excellent science fiction. The Raven Hotel is absolutely brilliant.

I watched episode 1 of this last night. It felt extremely generic, clearly lifting heavily from Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell, but with absolutely none of the visual beauty of either. The CG of the cityscapes in particular looked extremely low rent. Pretty much on par with a video game intro from several years ago. It desperately needs a Syd Mead equivalent.

The story setup is interesting enough though, so I'll stick with it for a few more episodes at least.

From a technical standpoint it makes for a good HDR demo I guess. It's really turned up to 11. Decent black levels too which is a first for Netflix's Dolby Vision work. Still lacking some of that 4K sharpness though, which only Amazon seem to be able to nail.

I watched it all Friday as I had a day off and really enjoyed the series. Very good presentation, solid cast and my only complaint (and I can't actually believe I'm saying this) is some of the nudity just seemed forced and no real need for it.

It will be interesting to see where they go with it if they attempt a second series though.

Seen the first 5 episodes, what does it remind me off? Top of my head *The Matrix*
It is sure high budget and a great cast, clever script, no expense spared.
The nudity scenes, wasn't expecting the full frontal but just me watching it so its ok.
My favorite character is defo (POE) even tho his just a program.

Looking forward to the remaining episodes tonight and tomorrow, if only there were more hours in the day.

Just finished the season, I started with low expectations and ended up surprised by the quality.
Video quality is very good, could be excellent if Netflix increased the bandwith a bit more, story kept me hooked until the end, so in my books that equals to

Been very impressed with it so far.
The only thing that disappointed me was changing the Envoy storyline and 'exchanging' Quell for Virginia Vidaura. I liked Virginia:)

watched it all and enjoyed it pretty much all of it a great deal

for the bandwidth used this is a pretty stunning picture just a shame the NVidia device does not allow for atmos on Netflix

more very impressive original content from Netflix - I don't know how they do it for £9.99 per month for the 4k service but I am very glad they do - absolute bargain !

Limited to 15Mbs, think they should up it now to around 25Mbs at least being that network rates are on the up and the way we are now consuming data at the Gigibytes. Use the shield myself and the HDR is pretty good, like you Atmos is not available but happy enough with 5.1.

I feel 15mbps is barely adequate for 4k. I don't really see that much PQ gain over a decent bitrate 1080 source so while nice to have, overall I'm a bit disappointed with Netflix 4k.
I don't know what the bitrate were of the BBCi Blue Planet II tests or what Youtube offers but they both look significantly better.

I agree, they are not going to rival disc 4K but still it if you have the bandwidth might as well use it if it was offered. On the plus side, Netflix are the pioneers of 4K programming, they were one the first after the adult industry, we tend to see when something is out for testing give it to the Adult stars. HD on BBC looks pretty good and YouTube 4K is I think better than Netflix... again depends on a lot of variations...

I just checked and it looks like Youtube bandwidth is upto 45mbps for 4k. Some of the demo videos are stunning for that bitrate.

Regarding Altered Carbon, despite the slight disappointment with PQ it is a great show. Right blend of acting and storyline.

      Is this actually 4K?
When i watched it, it wasnt carrying the 4k logo on netflix and was fairly soft in places, I figured it was like the new star trek show, and just 1080p given a HDR/DV grade.

Thanks. Wasn't sure. Hopefully Netflix might start to raise bit rates for these originals some time in the near future.

Looks amazing on my OLED, not so much on the QLED due to all the dark cyberpunk neon scenes!
