    Hi,

I have almost been convinced to buy the tosh rd-xs32 (thanks rasczak) just gonna be doing a little more reading up on it. Also looking at the sony rdr-hx900 - but I have had bad experiences with sony stuff.

However, once I have made my mind up - I will probably want it there and then. So, pre-empting this, I would like to know what people think of RGBDirect.com and any others to supply this bit of kit??? and what peoples thoughts are on buying extended warranties ?

    regards
    m

I've used RGB Direct several times and they have always given a very good service.

Personally I don't - unless it's something expensive like a Plasma TV it's simply not worth it. Provided the machine is fully functional when it arrives the most likely component to fail is the HDD. And the cost of replacing that is about the same/less as a extended warranty.

thanks for your reply, you have mentioned something there which I wanted to ask in another thread - but this will do...

With the HDD, has anyone considered/done changing the HDD? for instance, increasing the HDD size...?

    regards

I bought my XS32 from RGB but unfortunately had to return it as it was faulty - I have received a brand new unit from them today as replacement.

I have one gripe with them - I ordered mine over the phone and was caught off guard by the salesman who ended up talking me into buying a profigold scart for £40, I've later discovered the same lead for £15 elsewhere.

Good price and prompt delivery !!

You can change the HDD (opening the box invalidates your warranty though) but even if you put a larger HDD in the extra capacity will not be recognised.

IMHO it's a waste of money with something like a DVD recorder.

For extended warranty you could get John Lewis to price match and they give a 2 year warranty. Possibly get a 3rd year by using a credit card that offers a year extended warranty for free.

(Note: John Lewis only do region 2 on the Tosh as far as I know)

I got mine from RGB early December and service was very good. Arrived quickly and no problems at all.

An update on getting extended warranty from credit card (in case anyone is interested).

Just rang to register my XS32 and evidently DVD recorders are excluded from extended warranty cover.

At least I have 2 years with John Lewis. :)
