Just thought I'd make everyone aware of a competition running at http://www.gamewarzone.co.uk/Top_100.htm to find the all time top 100 video games. You name your top 10 video games and you're entered into a prize draw to win an Xbox, a Gamecube, a PS2 and a Gameboy Advance, along with five games for each system. That's four game systems and twenty games! Got to be worth a go IMO.

    I posted

    Civ 2 - PC
    Mechwarrior 2 - PC
    Elite - BBC
    Chrono Trigger - SNES
    Mario World - SNES
    Everquest - PC
    CounterStrike - PC
    Wipeout 2097 - PS1
    Final Fantasy 7 - PS1
Legend of the Mystical Ninja - SNES

With further consideration I think I would have removed Mystical Ninja and replaced it with :-

Tactics Ogre : Knights of Lodis- GBA

other games which came close :

    Final Fantasy Tactics - PS1
    Streetfighter 2 Turbo - SNES
    Tekken 2 - PS1
    Tomb Raider - PS1
    Mario Karts - SNES
    F-Zero - SNES
    Advance Wars - GBA

But I tried to base it on time playing and enjoyment :) Funny to notice there is not one game in my choice produced in the last couple of years (exception of runner up Tactics Ogre).

1, Tiger Woods PGA Golf (XBOX)
2, Street Fighter Bundle (American Sega Saturn version with SF II, SF II Championship Edition and SF II Alpha EX2)
    3, Kick Off II (Amiga)
    4, PGA Tour Golf (Amiga)
    5, Virtua Tennis (DC)
    6, Need For Speed (3DO)
7, Delta Force III - Task force Delta (PC)
    8, Sudden Strike (PC)
    9, SF Alpha (Saturn)
10, Rock N Roll Racing (SNES)

Many will raise an eyebrow at the inclusion of a 3DO game but anyone who played NFS will understand, the 3rd stage on the Alpine level is IMO the toughest driving challenge ever created, narrow roads, icy roads, oncomming traffic, blind bends, cops to watch out for, a rival racing you..................

I think the top games of all time should be divided into single player and multiplayer categories, comparing Mario games to Unreal Tournament isn't an accurate assessment of a quality game. DF III would never make it into my top 10 if it wasn't for online play, R N Roll racing/Kick Off II/Virtua Tennis are other examples where multiplayer really makes the game.

    1. Original Super Mario Bros - that was the flagship game of a generation of console gaming and the height of console gaming.

    2. Contra - Excellent side scroller, multiplayer, great gameplay, simple perfect game

    3. Ledgend of Zelda - The first RPG hack and slash - excellent playability, long game and began a tradition of zelda games

    4. Final Fantasy - The first truly excellent RPG console game.

    5. Street Fighter 2 (N64) - arcade craze at home - neighborhood tournaments, whole nights of sf2 parties.

    6. Doom (PC) - the original (not really, but the craze was launched here) FPS game - spawned an entirely new era in gaming

    7. GTA3 (PS2) - broke all the rules. The first game I am aware of where nobody cared what the missions were, or wanted to complete the game.

    8. Half-life or Unreal (PC) - online gaming here we come

    9. Need for Speed 3 - Hot Pursuit (PC) - The best racing game of it's type and the added bonus of multiplayer and the cops. No rival until 2002 with NFS:HP2 the sequal

    10. Tetris (GB)- the classic on a handheld - AND competing against friends - this was the greatest toy of the 90's.

    3... SIM CITY SERIES (PC)
    4... PRO EVO SOCCER (PS1/PS2)
