Go for a decent HTPC............

You can play hi def stuff then as well............

As a tip - the Aldi pc's are due in the next month - always very fast and very hi specced and should suit your needs fine.

I have last years - it has rgb scart - svideo - composite - vga and hdmi out !!

Excellent machine.

No I dont upscale...........

But for £600 - £700 which is what the new Aldi pc will cost - i think its a no brainer!

Although I still haven't got my Tosh yet (have to wait for some building work and decorating to be completed first!), I've just bought the Panasonic DVD-S97 in advance of me getting it.

I've hooked it up to my ancient old JVC CRT via RGB scart, and the picture is absolutely stonking!

I cant wait to see what this baby will do over HDMI to the Tosh!

Got a good deal on it too - webelecticals.co.uk - got a multi-region version for £219.99 including VAT & Delivery!

Only got it yesterday, and still playing with it and finding my way around, however its managed to play a disk what I thought was a corrupt disk and which wouldn't play on two Philips systems, and my laptop's DVD players - without a single problem! (Good little crash test for it!) :)

One thing I'm trying to get used to though, is remembering to use the "Position Memory" before powering the box down, or swapping disks in and out of the player.

My old Philips would do that automatically - does anyone know of a setting that can automate this on the S97?

The only downside I can see to the S97 is the manual which in my opinion is bloody awful!
