I already have a Panasonic HS2 hooked up to a 32" Sony TV. Now I want to add surround sound. I'm totally new to this, and I've trawled through mags and forums, visited HiSpek, John Lewis, and specialist shop (Studio82 in Harpenden). HiSpek recommend an Accoustic Energy Aego P5. JL - Sony HTKT250. Studio82 - Bose Lifestyle 35. Reading the forums, Bose don't seem right, although it did sound quite nice (to me). It should, it's £3000! The Sony HTK250 or DAVS-SC5 don't seem to have much volume, but this may be because it got lost in the shop. However, my room is 6Mx4M. Panasonic have similar systems, i.e. XR25, by the mags didn't rate them that highly. That leaves the Accoustic Energy Aego P5, inc decoder. I didn't listen to this, but the sales guy rated it highly. The decoder unit looks more like an engineering box than a modern AV system component. As you can see, I'm all over the place. I don't mind spending more, so long as I get a better system (within reason). I like the Bose for it's small sats, which would look neat and tidy. I'd prefer to have everything done "out of sight", and just feed an optical cable from my current DVD player. That leads me to think powered amp with integrated decoder. A budget of £500 would suit me better than the £000's for Bose. I'd be very grateful for any recommendations or links to powered speaker systems.
