Don't buy this player in the expectation of ever getting hidef movies for it, there's zero chance Hollywood will adopt HVD as a format they support.

I bought one for it's range of outputs, de-interlacing and upscaling capabilities.

The Neuneo HVD208 does an incredibly good job of upconverting 576p native pal dvd discs to 1080i. Never tried HVD. Take a look at my other posts.

    Hi guys,

My girlfriends uncle is negotiating to get exclusive rights on this machine over here. Will this machine work with the forthcoming HD-DVD format or is it HDV only?

No, it won't play HD-DVD. It plays HVD which, while being true 720P HD, is a format peculiar to the Far East, and is a proprietary version of MPEG2 encoding.

Also, be careful not to confuse HVD (Holographic Versatile Disc) with HVD (High-Clearness Video Disc) two completely different technologies. Oh, and we have EVD, and FVD too - who makes up these acronyms

    Yeah,
but it's delivered from Hong Kong so would get hit with Customs duty.

So add about 20% plus collection fees :(

duty on a DVD player is 14%. Then there is VAT on top of the duty and shipping.
