I can either get a Sony DAV S500
    or
    a Sony HTK215 + Pioneer DV444

    Which is better for sound/picture?

My budget is £500 if you can think of better alternatives.

    Thanks Guyz!

I think most (90%) people here will advise you to go for seperates...

The seperates route is definately the road to take.
If this is your first step into A / V and DVD, then it wont be your last ! Going the seperates route will leave more scope later on for upgrading. If you buy a complete package then that's what you'll be selling if you want to upgrade anything later. Seperates will also more certainly bring you better results.
You probably will get bitten by the bug ! So go the seperates route and have fun.

    seperates virtually everytime.

There are too many features missing from the Sony DAV range to make it a serious option - for the money you need to spend on it.

So do you guys think that the Sony HTK215 + Pioneer DV444 combo is a good choice?

    Before going any further....

Take ahold of your credit card and say 10 times in a loud clear voice.....

"I will not spend more than my budget...."

May I recommend the Yamaha HTIB40 again (£380-400). I still think its great and better than the Sony. Just add any DVD player. This may push you a little over your budget but well worth it.

Whilst some all in ones are pretty good, generally you´ll get better performance from seperates.

Also its possible to upgrade which you cant with all in ones.

I´d go for seperates every time.
