Right after a little wonder around the WWW I finally found all the differences between the packaging. Its my understanding that the disk content is the same on both regions.

    Region 2 packaging >>>

    Region 1 packaging >>>

    http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000VCZK2.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

    which contains this >>

    http://www.dvdanswers.com/index.php?r=0&s=1&c=2733&n=1&burl=

    But .......

In January, all 4 movies will be released in their own 2 disk collectors edition box sets, like this >>>

So now what. This is gotta be the hardest box set I ever had to choose. I like the R1 box, but the contents on that 5'3" foldout is gonna get tatty. I dont like the R2 box but like the more solid plastic sleeves inside

    I feel your pain.

I would have preferred 4 or 5 amarrays to either of those though.

Always next year I suppose ala Godfather Trilogy.

    I got the R1.

The Region 2 packaging is definitely far superior. But then I'm not a fan of the cardboard foldout style anyway. As you say, they end up getting tatty. (like Back to the Future for example)

Why didn't 'they' simply release the January standalone editions in a box?

The R2 type boxes are terrible, they are like the Babylon5 series 3 box sets, the discs come loose in transit. Not due to the packaging but the spindle bit that holds the discs in are crap.

Hopefully the fox ones will be better, than the warner ones.

Yeah I had the Dune Spec edition in a 3 disc set like the R2 Alien.

Disc feel off the loose spindle and was scratched to bits.. hence I bought the R1.. but may sell the whole set and buy the amarays next year.

I thought the packaging for the Region 2 release was pretty good, saw the Region 1 release on many stalls today, couldnt say it impressed me that much, as long as the films and extras live up to the reviews I will be a happy.
